In 1984 I was given a copy of this LP Sgt. Pepper Audio 5 by my mate Craig who worked for EMI in Sydney for many years. He said take it because there were not many of these made & we haven't been able to sell a lot as everyone thinks they are too expensive. (They retailed at the time for about A$30). He also told me the bulk of them were going to be disposed of. I'm not sure what he meant at the time but after watching this Video of this rare LP those words have now come back to haunt me. (Fortunately I still have the LP in Mint condition as I am an avid Beatles record collector & in fact I now have 2 copies of this LP #009 & #246). I'm in the process now of contacting my mate to find out what happened to all the LP's that weren't sold.
If you dispute the claim and write some nice words, usually it ends up allowed after a few days. I was able to upload the mono US mix of I Feel Fine/She's A Woman that way, and it seems many others have used the method in order to upload The Beatles records. Alternatively, it might be nice to have FLAC samples or even the entire disc transferred because YouTube compression and things.
It will be really interesting to hear how this one sounds. It seems that when Bartley was at RCA and EMI Studios 301, his work was very highly regarded. Unfortunately, a lot of his more recent CD/digital masters leave a lot to be desired, but that's probably due to clients demanding the loudness and smiley face EQ treatment.
Wow, not even heard of this pressing, I have the MFSL and a few UK firsts, the latter being the best I’ve ever heard. Really can’t wait for the shootout now. I’ll be particularly interested in how the first press compares to this Australian copy, the UHQR and the Nimbus
What a beautiful example of this super-rare edition! Congrats on purchasing a copy. You've left us with a real cliffhanger, Andrew; can't wait to hear your thoughts on sound quality. Take care.
You literally unboxed that like the freaking holy grail was in there lol. I'm over here like OPEN IIIIIIITTTTT!
This is indeed a holy grail of vinyl collecting. How superb. Well done Andrew on adding this gorgeous work to your collection. Looking forward to hearing about the sonic quality 👍
I have a Japanese pressing that I bought about 30 years ago . Sounds fantastic , just as good as any cd copies that I have . It has the gate fold cover and all the cardboard accesories of the original UK release .
Looking forward to hear that you truly relaxed and fully enjoyed your pressing! I really hope your DO like it immensely. Me? Well...I'd be frightened to play it, 😆🤣! I'd have to fire up my Nakamichi cassette deck AND DAT machine AND one of my recording computers and try (vainly, probably) to capture that experience, 😆🤣! Aloha!
Andrew, I can't wait to see the upcoming video on the sound quality shoot out between these audiophile pressings. I can confirm for you that the inner bag / sleeve is correct as it's the same as my copy (Number 70) that I purchased on the day of the show in July 1983. I must get a pair of white gloves...
While Revolver and Abbey Rosd sre my faves Pepper is #3 Still fresh and innovative as it was 55 yrs ago
Look forward to hearing it, but annoyed that we’ll be hearing it digitally. When digital first was mass produced on CDs I was working for a guy that was a real audiophile and he had a sound system that at the time (1988) had a stylus that cost 800 dollars. I asked him to play something for me and he asked what I wanted to hear, noticing he had a Moody Blues record on the shelf I said “Question”. The sound blew me away and at that point realized that there is a “feel” to non digital music that digital can’t transmit. I know people will argue the point, but if you ever get a chance to hear a record in person through a really decent record player, I guarantee you’ll hear and feel the difference.
I've heard the Nimbus pressing and the Audio 5 pressing and the Audio 5 just pips it. Thanks again Andrew for this wonderful video and look forward to your review of the sound quality.
What a find and in such pristine condition. Cannot wait to hear your report.
Andrew, white glove treatment indeed. I am in awe of your find. You are a blessed man. I can't wait for the second part!
Danke!
I do hope this pressing sounds superbl, or many of us will feel rather let down after the wait for your comparison video! 🙂
Congrats on hauling in this grail, Andrew! BTW, my favorite Pepper cut is the -3/-3 by HTM that was done in I think 1976.
Amazing video Andrew! I owned a Nimbus copy of Sgt Pepper that I sold to buy the BC13 but it sounded really good! Cant wait for the next videos. Great Video! 👍
