I 100% agree that ocean life is VERY alien-like. So much so that it’s kinda crazy to me that we’re constantly looking for other life forms in space, when there’s an entire world filled with— arguably— the most interesting creatures imaginable, and they’re right here on earth with us! Some of the things down there don’t even seem like they should BE alive, no heart, no brain, no bones, no organs, but still functioning in the ways necessary for survival. There’s even microscopic organisms that are practically indestructible. It’s all very interesting and all VERY alien. Fun ocean facts for the road: - Sharks have a sort of electro-sensor (Ampullae of Lorenzini) on their heads that helps the navigate and detect prey. - Jellyfish are about 95% water. - Whales only sleep with one half of their brain, the other half stays alert so they can keep an eye out and resurface for air, if needed, while resting.
