I like to say “anxiety”. It’s something everyone suffers from in one point, but then I COMPLETELY sidetrack the conversation, and actually talk about how hard I work because things don’t come easy for me or whatever. “I stay up late, I do everything I can, because I’m here to do a job and I really want to do it. I love overcoming challenges like that”
So my anxiety, instead of being a weakness, becomes a strength that I’m continuing to overcome, proving my grit and passion

@sid-h5y

My answer would be - " I apply for a toxic company just for raise in pay"😂😂

@chaoticfeminist

I always said “I used to take things too personally when customers would get upset but it’s something I’ve gotten much better at in my 15 year career”. If they don’t like the honesty, I don’t want to work there. That answer has won me every interview I’ve had.

@byciechronic

[Boss]: What is your greatest weakness?
[Worker]: I am honest.
[Boss]: I don't think is a weakness, rather an adventage
[Worker]: I don't care what you think.

xD

@katrinfischbach8720

I have a truthful, simple answer. I have no sense of direction whatsoever - to prevent this from causing me problems on the way to work, for example, I look at the possible routes very carefully on Google or on maps beforehand and, if possible, drive the route at least once with a second person. So far, this has always been well received.

@Sonicfan138

I love how you mention that it may not be related to your job. It's important to be honest, but no one would want an accountant that can't do math, a firefighter that's afraid of the heat, a teacher that hates children....pick a weakness that relates just enough to the job to make the answer work.

@trinesrensen6821

I am a classic academic type. Was at an interview yesterday. Got asked this. Answered frankly that practical work is truly not my force like connecting a projector. They applauded my self reflection and was like "actually now you mention it EVERYBODY in the office stink at those tasks". Then we laughed. Very calm and good experience

@Cassie_Ramos

I actually did this during my last job interview. I mentioned how anxious I get speaking to strangers, specially in English (my mother tongue is Spanish), and then I emphasized how much better I've gotten at it at my last job and how I like to push myself out of my comfort zone and improve as a person, both personally and professionally.

It worked, it's been almost a year now and I've actually gotten better at it. Win/win, I was honest and I got to really improve my social skills.

@leodemtl

One skill I'm currently working on is answering to stupid or tricky questions. I love meeting potential employers, but I've noticed that sometimes I struggle at making sh*t up to please HR people.

@robertnett9793

I am hardworking, resourceful, ingenious, a bright mind, a good team lead, a computer nerd, fluent in all of the programming languages - even Whitespace and ESPECIALLY Malbolg. I am also a natural when it comes to marketing.
My greatest weakness - that surely holds me back in my ambitions is my innate humbleness.

@dovie2blue

I like to stay behind the scenes and help others to achieve their goals. I've been working on stepping into the spotlight more often.

@salvadorpradoramos

My biggest weakness is not knowing your system. Once I put my feet in I will be able to get overcome this weakness

@202cardline

Erin, we need more fake weaknesses because public speaking is a part of my job 😂 What an annoying question.

@writer1986

Yes. This question wants to gauge how you problem solve and overcome hardships, and you back it up with support.

@dmb1875

Someone I know just says her favorite dessert at that time, never saw it fail her and always makes the interviewers laugh 😂

@lsora12

What is you greatest weakness?

Don't having the monumental patience necessary to deal with the idiotic mind games of HR interviews

@rollingdown7367

my go to answer is always “ I’m a people pleaser” and I usually get a good response after that!

@owngrownco

Great advice! Specifically focusing on a "weakness" that doesn't interfere with your ability to do the job is a big key.
Another approach to the second part of this is sharing how you work around it and/or how your leader can even get the best out of you.

Start with self-awareness and really understanding your natural talents.. what comes naturally for you and conversely, what doesn't come naturally for you (even if you can do it).

So for me, Consistency doesnt come naturally for me. I can do it, but I find it very draining to do the same work or tackle the same problem the same way over and over. Im very naturally in tune to the nuances in people and situations, and my brain can't stop thinking of creative solutions tailered to those nuances. This works great for my coaching work! At times when I DO need more consistency for my job like repeating the same presentation or tackling a project the same way repeatedly, having that expectation clearly set for me upfront from my leader is helpful for me and if I can still have some sort of creative project or coaching 1:1s while getting through that thing that requires consistency, it helps motivate and energize me.

@edbarry1315

My greatest weakness is tolerating irrelevant and idiotic questions loke this in the interview process.
