Update for 2023: "Learning Go" by Jon Bodner is the more modern and up to date book influenced by "The Go programming language". Recommend that book instead.
This man told me on twitter not to use Gin for web development and pretty much to just raw dog it with the standard library. Coming from Python/Django this was some of the best advices ever
I'd start with 4 going backwards. You will only be motivated to learn when it's a real world project with timelines and implications. It has worked for me in different languages apart from rust.
If you already know few programming languages and don't want to start learning go in depth, you need to read the book "An introduction to programming in Go" by Caleb Doxsey, it's the most simple and concise way to quickly switch to go
Very good points, great information, thank you! Of course there will be updates!
I agree with all your suggestions especially the last one, I'm a huge fan of all Trevor Sawler courses and I highly recommend them.
Really loved this especially since Steve courses are simplified
Stephen Gridger is an OG! The guy knows how go teach!
I used a 1hr yt video to learn the syntax and go specific keywords, and then I was able to do backend work just like that
You missed the most important step: build a project by yourself❤
I don't know about others, but I could never learn a language by reading a giant hard cover book. In my opinion, pick a project and learn as you go
This is all great advice, but I will go with my tried and true strategy instead. 1. brew install go 2. rush headlong into a personal project while barely knowing how to print hello world. 3. make delicious spaghetti code as project crashes and burns 4. actually read the documentation now that I learned what not to do by my own example.
Thank you 🙏
Python, C#, GO, Java, and Swift are the future of development.
Thank you, been feeling very lost in trying to learn go, hopefully this grounds things down
It's so long to take this path just to learn the fundamentals
Thanks for the references. Let's GO
Thanks Travis, I was looking for some guidance and definitely I found it here
Love it when someone recommends a course that says "The COMPLETE Guide" and ends up with saying "You will learn the basics". :D
