Another problematic relationship no one ever seems to question is Mariah Carey and Tommy Mottola. They met when Mariah was around 17 and he was 40. Soon later they started dating and they finally got married in 1993 when she was 23 and he was 45. If the age gap wasn't disturbing in and of itself, he was also essentially her boss, head of her record label and one of the most powerful men in the music industry, and she had just started her career and came from nothing. Unsurprisingly, the marriage turned out abusive, and Tommy is still credited to this day for "making" Mariah, when, in fact, he took advantage of her more than she profited from the relationship...
the interview Brooke Shields has with Drew Barrymore breaks me because they BOTH understand exactly what Brooke is saying, it's horrible..

The fact that Brooke Shields mother and the photographer felt so ok with a 10 year old posing naked and oiled up, and playboy actually offering money for it is horrifying. So fucking horrifying
The creepiest Hollywood relationship in my eyes is Woody Allen's relationship with his now ex partners , Mia Farrows adopted daughter who he helped raise from childhood totally creeps me out. Truly vile its just so disgusting as that power dynamic etc I would say he definitely groomed her and it was most definitely illegal when it all started yet nothing happens. Like seriously wtaf???
I think of the interview of Kirsten Dunst for Interview with a Vampire or something, and the interviewer asked her if she liked getting to kiss Tom Cruise and her gracious response was more or less “Tom’s great, don’t get me wrong, a terrific actor, but I’m 12, and he’s a man, why would I like kissing a man?”
As a server I work with some teenagers. I’m 35, and one of my coworkers who constantly accused LGBTQIA of being predators, started dating our 18 year old hostess. He’s 43. It’s her first relationship. I couldn’t imagine dating one of the LITERAL CHILDREN I work with. It created a weird division between staff with a few men defending the 43 year old. Eventually some of my other coworkers started saying things like “she’s always liked older guys” “daddy issues” etc. blaming the young girl. It’s so disturbing how nothing has changed.
Bottom line: We need to stop idolizing people. We can admire people for their talent, but it's better to value people for their integrity and moral character.
Both David Harbour and Pedro Pascal have cute offscreen fatherly bonds with Millie Bobby Brown and Bella Ramsey respectively. This makes Leonardo DiCaprio's preference of dating women between 18-25 even more unsettling.
I hate the "she's mature beyond her years" excuse. I was a mature teen, I could hold conversations with adults without problem, but I was a child regarding romantic relationships until my mid 20s. No, a smart teen is still a child and it shows.
I used to adore Charlie Chaplin, Elvis Presley and Leo DiCaprio, but ever since I learned of their predatory behavior to young women, TEENAGERS OR VERY CLOSE AGE TO ONE, it changes my view of them completely
the “it was just a different era” apologists are so deeply invested in not processing their own trauma or properly blaming the men responsible for abusing them because of their celebrity status, thus guaranteeing the cycle continues
30 Years ago me and my cousin went to a concert and we got to talking to the singer and the guitar player before the show. We had a great conversation and a lovely click. Then they asked us our age. We answered honestly, 15 and 16 respectively. Their demeanor melted. Next beat they picked themselves up and went "Welp! Lovely to talk to you girls, we'll be on our way now." Decent dudes. The band was Senser.
Leonardo Dicaprio met his ex girlfriend Camila Morrone when she was 11 years old as her mother actress Lucila Solá was then dating actor Al Pacino at the time. Camila considered Leo a “family friend” whom she started dating when she was 18!! years old. As predicted Leo promptly dumped Camila at 24.
Worst of all, such relationships are not just swept under the rug, they are glorified. I have heard content creators from different countries literally saying “date younger women, RAISE a wife fit for you, MOLD her into what you want”.
The way people cheered when they heard Aaron might have cheated says enough
Prince met his first wife when she was 16 and he was in his mid thirties. They became public when she was 19 and he was about 38 years old. They got married when she was 22 and he was in his 40s. She went on to write a book about how her marriage was to him. She went on to describe how he was very controlling and took advantage of his position as her boss (she was his backup dancer) when she did anything he didn't like. He also controlled what she ate because he didn't want her gaining weight
My big issue with grown adults pursuing people who are barely legal is that if you’re attracted to them as an 18 year old, you wouldn’t have been any less attracted to them a year prior. The only thing stopping them from pursuing someone younger is the law. That is disgusting. Date people your own age ffs.
Wow. I’m impressed. I read a lot about misogyny, feminism, patriarchal stuff etc… I knew about almost every one of these instances mentioned but have never seen them discussed on social media outside of just feminist circles. It’s nice to see someone make a well researched video covering this.
