(semi-spoiler) Hi cam! Finished it today, great review! I thought it was very worthwhile read as well. One scene that is sticking with me is when he is in that shell hole with the French soldier and had his first hand-to-hand combat experience. It seemed to effect him greatly on an emotional level, especially since he was stuck there a long time. But making it back to his comrades, they all instantly went back to desensitizing him. Makes you grasp just how disconnected with the self one becomes in war.

Having just finished All Quiet on the Western Front , I marvel how intuitively you've selected the most compelling passages.
Thank you so much.
I've been meaning to read the book for years upon the recommendation of Bob Dylan, who's mentioned it repeatedly as an impactful novel.
I believe he mentions the book in his acceptance speech after receiving the Nobel Prize for Literature.
I can imagine Dylan as a very young man, reading All Quiet on the Western Front with rapt attention, after which Masters of War poured forth from his unsettled soul unbidden.
The book inspires feelings of tenderness and compassion for the young men involved but towering rage as well.
What a terrible waste of beautiful young souls this book describes.
God bless 🙏

Just finished the book today. It was beautifully tragic. Very glad i read this classic. The prose was simple but very raw and painted such a grim picture of war but the closness of friendship so well. 10/10

I’m currently reading all quiet on the western front and I’m absolutely loving it. It’s definately the best war novel I’ve read so far.

This books was amazing, one of my favs, if anyone asked, I couldn't make myself stop recommending it, especially when it seems we have learned nothing from our own past
