I really like the hip movement tips in this video. It's actually one of the reasons I've started drifting from Goju-Ryu and Shotokan towards Bajiquan and Piguaquan.

I really like the fluid techniques in kung-fu and the sense of whipping the entire body instead of the more economical and robotic (in a good sense) techniques from karate.

Or maybe I've been practicing karate wrong and started getting it better just now. Who knows)

What I love about the sensei's in Okinawa is that they're just so chill & down to earth. 👊🥋

I have heard this called the body whip. It can be used during high and low blocks also and generates a lot of power. Very few people can do it correctly. Your explanation of the movement was very good. I’ve heard it explained different ways. Like a snake coiled up and striking or like a wave approaching and crashing on the beach and my favorite bamboo in a typhoon that has been blown back back and back and only brakes as it is hit by debris after it can no longer store energy to be released. The idea is to think about and study each of these to help you understand how to apply the body whip. Anyways keep doing what you are doing because you really do begin to learn and understand until you begin to teach.

I love Okinawa I miss it so very much.

You need to try kyokushin under Royama kaicho

Back in the 80s, my dad was my sensei. We officially did Shukokai, but my dad taught me more Okinawa karate. Bruce Lee also taught lots of this.

Hello Yusuke san! I've really liked your Yusuke in Okinawa series every time you've done it, and have been greatly helped by all of the lessons you learn and give us every time.

This video too was great and taught me many things like the wave-like flowing hip movements during punches. I've been doing them like the way we learnt last video and learning that the stretch of the body could be used like a bow/rubberband to increase the power of the punch by making it like a whip was really interesting and I will try to integrate that in my practice!

The lesson about blocks was really amazing and eye opening! It cleared up my confusion regarding the hip movements during shuto uke since I've always been a bit puzzled on the best way to move the hips for shuto uke because I've always had problems with hip movements in kokutsu dachi, so I am very grateful that you asked Higa sensei that question and gave us the information too!

I'm currently a brown-2 belt, shotokan style, and my black belt exam is actually around the end of this month/beginning of july, so I've been really excited and also heavily nervous regarding it, since I don't feel that I am currently up to par since I haven't had much time to practice due to studies recently. So, I've been doing my best to practice and grind hard this month to improve my techniques before the exam, and I would like to thank you since your videos have been a significant help, especially the hidden karate principles series which have helped me to improve my fundamentals greatly.

I hope to one day be able to directly learn from you or get feedback from you since I can't do that now because I don't have any money to spend, haha, so till then I'll do my best to support you, so thank you for your hard work and all of the precious information you give to your audience.

Hope you remain happy and in good health and keep the videos coming! Also, it would be interesting if you would do a couple of vlog type videos that show what places you went to on your visit to okinawa (especially the restaurants because today's food looked very umai!).

@Noone-rt6pw

This is the best instructional I seen of yours yet! Real good. Like keeping balance from a wide stance is good. Where how to keep from falling back from push or shove, etc. More information if in your extended cut, let me know.

These videos are so eye opening and important....
I am still trying to take it in....

@jozef_chocholacek

Though a very different style, I noticed a lot of same principles in how Higa-sensei generates and applies power, and how my sensei (Taira Masaji, Goju-ryu) teaches to do it.

@williamwilson2624

Thank you for sharing this experience.

@zl1gee

Very good video! Osu!!

@Vincentorix

I’m really enjoying this series Sensei. I like the insight to the culture and the training concepts. It seems to have everything. Those eggs you had for lunch looked delicious and full of K2 vitamins. 👍ありがとう

Arigato gozaimasu 🙏 Sensei. I am going to work on the hip to punch timing. I have a bad habit of hip and arm simultaneously. I need to work on hip first
