"If it's on the open web, it's free for use". Microsoft isn't allowed to complain about piracy in any context ever again.
"Work its way through the courts". I.e. we will never ask for permission for anything, just stop if we are ordered to.
Love how these CEOs want to claim all this content is "fair use" because it's on the open web, but then will be first in line to sue an individual who takes the same stance when it comes to their own IP.
It's kinda amazing how companies can go from "You wouldn't steal a car" to "that's what WE do"
I'm going to advocate for one step further: None of these systems should be Opt-Out, they should 100% and unambiguously be Opt-In. The internet currently is a barrage of "you didn't turn off us stealing from you, so we're allowed to steal from you." and that is not and never should be how IP ownership works. If someone broke into my house and then told me "well you didn't tell me not too", that would be ridiculous and for these companies to insist that that is the system we should all be working under is even more ridiculous. And anyone claiming that burying a sentence in a 500 page ToS waives all obligation to basic respect of other people and their property is wrong and should be laughed out of the room.
I just used the search function. Wow....45 Smarter Every Day videos were used. That's irritating.
Give Youtubers an option to opt of training AI models. I'm not a youtuber. I just love watching YouTube and I love the YouTubers I watch and want their work to be respected by Google as just as much as I respect it. Google you have nothing without these creators.
My entire life I was told that "just because it's accessible on the internet doesn't mean that you can use it in any way you want because often those things are protected by copyright" and now those companies that strictly enforced copyright law (sometimes over zealously) are saying "actually we can do whatever we want with copyrighted materials that we don't own now" because they figured out a way to make money off of it. Before these companies were investing in AI their standard policy would be to issue cease and desist letters to anyone doing exactly what they are doing now; the only difference is that now they are the ones who stand to gain from a grey area. It doesn't feel remotely fair because it isn't.
The "Hank pulls camera out of editing screen to add addendums" is becoming a classic move.
"UserAgent : EVERYONE Disallow : EVERYTHING" Goes kinda hard tbh.
I do believe content creators should be able to opt out. The data is clearly valuable and it being used for the purpose of training. Creators should get a royalty cut for helping to train as an incentive to opt in. Seems fair
If an AI was made from all of our data, we should all own the product. Not the private companies that stole the data.
Just searched and they’ve used 12 of my videos. 🤢 I’d have liked the chance to opt out. Thanks for making a deep dive vid on this!
21:30 "Useragent: Everyone. Disallow: Everything" honestly sounds like a really good protest chant
I agree we should be able to opt out!
"I cannot opt out of YouTube. ...I live here." This reminds me so much of people talking about changes in their beloved hometown. I hope your digital hometown will be ok
The BS of "opt out" goes against basic informed consent. It's gross on so many levels. It should always be opt IN.
Tha gall for youtube to put a gemini ad at the end of this video is why adblockers are appreciated
The entire AI “revolution” has felt more like one giant robbery
