So explicit is better than implicit but "if x" is better than "if x!=0"? This seems contradicting.

I think there are two good reasons to use the latter one:
1. Even without Python specific knowledge anyone can understand my code.
2. If you expect x to be a number but for some reason it is not, you want your programm to fail.
