As a citizen of a country where we have some apps blocked I can say that the government just makes the internet providers block sertain DNSs and IPs related to the app's servers. It's not practical to expect the app developers to ban themselves. If it's regulated by the government it has to be enforced by the government

I love that absolutely nobody knows what anyone means by "banning tiktok," I was talking to somebody about it today and neither of us knew at least edit: turns out we do know and I didn't care enough to find out

Tiktok's banned here in India. The apps aren't visible in app stores. When I try to open a Tiktok link in a browser, it shows a banner page explaining that Tiktok's banned by our government.

I’m so glad you made a vid on this. A bunch of octogenarians that can’t ban, like, plastic bags effectively, “banning tiktok” without detail sounds so ridiculous. Getting it off the app store sounds like the biggest hindrance for most users… but every other option like banning the URL locally or trying to “delete user data” is almost instantly worked around by the GP.

I have been in tech for 25 years and even I am continually surprised how something that is easy to explain can be so difficult in practice. It's no surprise that someone outside of this field can set unrealistic expectations and omit crucial parts of a work plan.
