This is an interesting project! When you mentioned about taking photos and catching all kinds of birds i got neuron activation about one little game called 'Alba: A wildlife adventure'. In this game you take photos with a phone that has built-in app that identifies animals, and in your inventory you have some kind of wildlife book with all kinds of animals that can be identified. In Alba you have few kinds of enviroments and each of them has his own chapter that can be opened in the book, so what about making one book with bird album and photo album that can be switched with one button?

You could add bird breeding which makes coop combinations of the different types and mabye add nests and eggs which could be stolen and sold or something
