Grreat explanations! OMG - I almost spit coffee across my desk at the end with the politician comment.
Sir, this is my fourth video in a row about FS in Unraid, finally with your clear explanation I figured out what suits me the best. Thanks a lot for the video!
Well Done! I'm a newbie and a follower of your instructions. They are invaluable, detailed and helpful that even I understand :) Keep the analogies coming!π
Solid video Ed! Loving the uncast show content
Just started converting my cache drives into ZFS, good timing to watch this vid
Thanks for explaining everything, I'm redoing my unraid. I messed during my setup. thanks again.
I think this video is more of an explainer on what ZFS is in general. It doesn't talk as much about how ZFS and unRAID, best known for the capability to mix drive sizes and easily extend its array, benefits from ZFS. How ZFS can be still useful (can it?) on single drives in a regular array. You touched on this briefly with the one drive in your system, but left a lot of question in my opinion. 'Is there bit-rot protection?', being one of them. I would have loved to know more about the interaction of unRAID and ZFS specifically, not what I already know from hearing about ZFS. Aside from that, in my opinion, somewhat confusing title, a very useful video. Thanks!
epic l2arc analogy haha, I love it.
My downloads cache zpool is 4x 2tb SSDs. I currently set them as mirror of 2 vdevs. How do I SAFELY change it to a raidz2? And if compression isn't on can I just turn it on or do I need to make changes first? 9:23
3:00 you can simply add a disk to a zpool now too. True Nas added raidz expansion last year. Hope unraid adds this in the future.
spare drive is probably the best thing thats ever been created its best for remote server backup where you just set it up and let it run for months without visiting the site in cases like you went out for vacation or working outstation
Thank you for your Videos on Unraid 7. I am a newbie to Unraid and have been for a while considering building a Unraid server to be able to storee my extensive library of Digital photos and music. Recently I aquired a Lincstation N2 and I have been following videos on You tube on how to bring the N2 to life, unfortunately most of the video deal with versions of Unraid 6. The Lincstation has Unraid 7 installed and I do not want to taker the retrograde step to an earlier version. is there a video amoungst your Uncast productions that could help me in this matter.
2:44 "whenever you need more space, you can just add another drive" --> me looking at my maxed out 30-drive array all of 10 TB disks.
Another easy to follow explanation of how things work in unraid. Would you consider doing an up to date Unraid Gaming VM? In the middle of building another server with a good spec. Using the Jonsbo N4 case so itβs going to be sitting next to my TV. Would like to have the best possible experience on the VM for gaming
I have zfs pool and array. When I use "new config" (To start over), the display of drives in zfs pool is NO LONGER in "pool devices". Which is transferred to ZFS Master with the previously set-up zfs form. What should I do next?
I thought you could use SSD's in an array and have them auto trim if formatted using BTRFS or do I have that wrong? I'm running 2 NVMe and one SATA SSD in an array, all formatted in BTRFS and have had no issues so far.
I just changed from a btrfs mirror to a 3 drive ZFS pool and my rootshare moves are no longer instantaneous. It acts like it is copying to another drive. Any ideas? Thanks
How can you import into unraid, a zpool from a Truenas export within the unraid ui? Avoiding the CLI? I have zpool imported a pool already from the CLI but unraid 7.1 is advertising that unraid 7.1 can import Truenas pools. Will Truenas pools show up in the pool devices section of unraid's main page? Thanks
