@henrytang2203

Everyone talks about the CO2, but no one talks about the lower running costs of an EV. Many newer batteries can last over 10 years easily.

@Madcowe

If people are this panicked about CO2 why aren't they promoting nuclear energy then?

@inglese2996

Polestar did a study on this, and it took way longer than one year for the electric car to ‘pay off’ its carbon debt. I’d like to see the evidence behind that 1 year (which, best case, will be highly variable)

@MF12123

Throw public transit abs bicycles in that chart and those cars will both look pretty ridiculous…

@likethat3968

12 years with the same electric car considering same battery… hard to believe the line doesn’t change when replacing the battery and the cost of disposing the old one… if replacement is even possible

@TheSmiesko

Not mentioned from which source we received electricity.

@gregiep

Is CO2 the only contaminant that matters?

@dhararry7929

The transportation sector is not what we should be worrying about in our fight against climate change. It's the power and industry sectors that matter.

@commieTerminator

Now compare with an EV made out of recycled materials

@Oracles958

I'm not even listening to what she's saying, i just love the way she says it😌

@HaploidCell

I thanks for this explainer!
One thing that didn't fit here is the environmental cost of recycling the battery at the end of its life.
Like, how bad is that, how energy-intensive?
Thankfully, we seem to be on a way to make better batteries already, so I also expect those costs to go down over time.

@mattmccallum2007

Is it better for the owner?

@gabrieljordan8015

As an electrician- im going to say yes regardless 😂

@jythehorsesmouth9074

So newer statistical analysis shows that electrical vehicles produce more carbon dioxide until the grid contains 48% renewables.

@RyanD8293

But where does the electricity used to charge the battery come from?

@MarketingBloke

Now include tyres in that conversation.

@jpl7909

It's important to buy more goods from places like China, which is heavily coal-powered. It's also crucial to expand the electrical grid to support EVs, and to not include the CO2 cost of that in any calculations.

@--Nova--

Batteries don't last 12 years. Have to be replaced after 10.

@psywiped

Was transmission and engine replacements considered in the calculation?

@stevewilliams77

Do these figures take into account the losses inherent in the generation and transmission of electricity.
