We should worry about the regular flu now, since the FDA cancelled the flu strain planning meeting yesterday.
9:22 "Finally if a pandemic does happen, at least we have recent experience on how to deal with that" Frankly that's more worrying than reassuring to me.
I’m a healthcare worker, and one of the few at my hospital who still wears a mask for every patient, flu and RSV are really bad right now. Seeing a lot of cases in the ED, babies and elderly getting hit hard, lot of admissions and other hospitals are not accepting non ICU transfers because they’re full. Stay safe out there.
9:23 don't worry about apologizing to raw milk/egg/meat enthusiasts, they don't listen to reason, anyway.
Theyre talking about "loosening regulations" on bird flu to lower egg prices.
The other practical advice I think people should follow is keep cats inside and dogs on leashes. Cats should be kept inside as much as possible anyway, but at this point we know 1) unattended cats will not follow public health advice to leave dead birds alone and 2) cats can get bird flu and it is very deadly to them. It seems like humans probably can get bird flu from cats, too. So, again, this is how we can close off opportunities for the virus to mutate in more mammals and also to protect our furry family members. I'm not aware of bird flu being detected in dogs as of yet, but it's still probably for the best to keep them away from dead birds and the best way to guarantee that is to keep them on a leash.
A personal silver lining from Covid, it increased my care about catching diseases and I haven’t been sick once in 5 years.
"I had a little birdie, her name was Enza. I opened up the window, and In Flew Enza!" (To the rhythm of classic jump rope songs.)
So H1N5 is in milk ? Thank jebus noone is stupid enough to drink raw milk nowadays , huh ? ... especially from farms that might offset the cost of low milk yealds by specialising in niche markets ...
Thank you for mentioning masking, and for masking consistently in public. You've earned another loyal follower :)
TL;DR: Germ theory is real. Amazing that it needs to be said (but it does).
In January 2020 my work told us to avoid all events with crowds and cancelled all travel. So that is when I started thinking this was a big deal.
March 7, 2020 was the day my business partner and myself decided I would no longer take the #1 bus from Hollywood to Fort Lauderdale, and work from home. He soon moved to Connecticut, I moved to Oakland, and we haven't seen each other in person since that day. Our business is doing fine.
Knowledge and modest preparation provide peace of mind without overreacting. Thanks for bringing awareness without being alarmist.
I feel like people are focusing more on the potential human pandemic spread without acknowledging that more people are probably going to die of hunger due to rising food costs related this. I agree don't panic, but I think it's time to start planning food source alternatives and ways to help, like local community gardens and mutual aid groups.
Pretty bad when eggs need more security than ammo.
I have a chest cold. I've been wearing a mask at home and no one else in my family has any symptoms. I plan to keep it that way.
I will take this one - YES, Yes, we should. Good talk! Edit: the compensation being based on when farmers report cases is a brilliant way to incentivize communication.
The fact that the US is gutting the CDC (apparently not deciding on what flu strains to prep for next year) and their callous take on the measles outbreak makes me think the GOP right now, WANT everything to get worse. x_x
