Just to give you an example of the level of persecution of Russian speaking Ukrainians… My mother, who lives in Ukraine, 76-year old woman, had a medical emergency recently and called an ambulance. The paramedics arrived and asked her a number of questions, she was answering them in Russian, her mother tongue, for what she was reprimanded and asked to speak in Ukrainian. Of course, my mother was too upset and too ill to do so. Keep in mind, she lived all her life there, and Russian language was prevalent there, in eastern part of Ukraine. Now, she has to switch her language if she wants to avail different services. So much for a democratic society!
Thanks to Alex for 3 years of consistent coverage of the war . . Dunno how he has the energy. :planet-orange-purple-ring::rocket-red-countdown-liftoff:
The US has just voted with Russia against a European/Ukrainian resolution , and the warmongers knickers are in a twist. The peace train has long left them fluffing at the station.
Europe doesn't realize how irrelevant they are becoming, the more they obsess with Ukraine.
Alexander, regarding the use of Ukrainian language by Zelenski and other politicians in Ukraine. Just some weeks ago Arestovich touched upon this topic and he stated that as soon as cameras were out of cabinets and no one was recording, every single person including Zelenski himself would switch to Russian language. No exceptions. Ermak, Podilyak, Budanov, Zelenski, Poroshenko, for all of them Russian is their native language and they speak Russian as soon as cameras turn off.
Kier Starmer "Ukraine is very important to the UK". The sad bit is most Britons buy this nonsense - just go and talk to people in the pubs. This idiocy will be Britains path to WW3.
To Alex Mercouris: thank you for your analyses on current events month after month, week after week, day after day... it must be emotionally draining for you at times. I have written comments as my own contribution, but I have found them deleted from the comment stream. Thanks for your work... I've learned much
Regarding Ukraine, I can just add, here from Former Yugoslavia, that in that same year of 2008, I don't remember whether it was before, during, or after that fatal NATO summit in Bucharest, those same Americans, simultaniously proclaimed the independence of Kosovo (from Serbia). But after the summit, of course, objected to identical kind of Russian intervention in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, proclaiming those, also autonomous provinces previously, independent from Georgia. Yes, American politics was always aggresively hypocritical.

Alexander, have you seen Jeff Sachs presentation to the EU? It is astonishingly revealing.
One side is capturing towns and cities, the other side is retreating. One side have young volunteers, the other is threatening to conscript its eighteen year old. One side has plenty of missiles and machinery, the other side is begging for weapons. One sides economy is growing a d stable, the other side is scuttling around trying to flog their future minerals. One side has the ear of the USA president, the other side is stuck with a bunch of drowning, squabbling no marks. One side is trying to bring peace through negotiations, the other side just wants the killing to go on forever,or until the last Ukraine is laid to rest. Now whats happening again in the terrible conflict?
One can understand the shock and indignation Europe feels on being sidelined by the USA in its negotiations with Russia. But what Europe needs to understand is that sidekicks are never party to talks when the bosses discuss business. 'Just saying!' 😂
I just find it insane that the US and Soviet Union had an open line of communication throughout the Cold War but now a US president meeting and talking with a Russian president is controversial or somehow a traitorous act. I fucking hate clown world.
Excellent journalism and analysis, especially on the mindset and attitude of the EU members with regard to the Ukraine conflict, and Russia US relations
Ukraine is not only discriminating against the Russian speakers, but against all the nationalities living in the territories that have been incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR through the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact!
Zelensky is on the way out, and he knows it. Neither Russia nor the USA want to deal with him anymore. Hence, his offer to resign was an empty gesture.
The lack of diplomacy is completely backfiring on the EU and Ukraine
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INSIGHT ALEX 🙏
The saying I said months ago is finally going mainstream. Coalition of the losers. Great coverage, Alexander mercouris. Greetings from México 💪
