@hamasathecold7842

I grew up with this movie. It single handedly inspired me to start writing a book, and it inspired the creation of my custom dnd setting

@crescentmoon2806

I've rewatched Treasure Planet couple months ago just to get reminded of how awesome this movie is, and everyone i talk to speaks about it as underrated gem
To this day i cant comprehend how it failed

@psyguy556

It's my favorite Disney movie and I still watch it every now and then even at age 30. Definitely deserves much more recognition. Fantastic video, have a sub!

@kyleforbes3932

This movie makes me cry really hard. I dont know why but I just relate to Jim so much. The scene where John Silver is telling him how amazing his potential is, and how he wants to see the sunlight shining from his sails, I turn into a puddle of piss and tears 😂

@kimfalleiro

really like tresure planet and atlantis it makes me really sad that they both flopped

@bbro43

As a 10 year old I gave zero f's about the voice cast as long as they can do the job. I don't care about the names. As an adult I don't care about the names.

No 10 year old is saying I want to go see a cartoon because it has a specific actor. You spent way to much time on the voice actors and not enough time on Isner wanting 2d to die so they could move on to cheaper 3d.

@betterNatethannever

I loved this movie personally

@dwoideeka

It had soul and was unique, maybe it was just too unique for the time. I grew up with movies like this. 2d animation just brings back so much nostalgia.

@dumella4989

If this was released today it would probably be a hit.

Such a good movie.

@heroman2372

I so desperately miss the beautiful hand drawn animation of the "Disney Dark Age"....

@yassies9640

97 here I remember seeing Treasure Planet trailers on my other Disney VHS tapes, and I agree that they never got me super interested. But when I grew up and discovered the movie, I can say it's one of my all time favorites.

@vanessastalacmaw5581

I grew up with this movie and after seeing many more movies, I'd still consider this one to be one of my favorites. This was such a great movie that sadly didn't get the recognition it deserved.

@mariasrodon5296

24:00 - 14:35 This is just perfidious.
Imagine pitching your dream idea to some big CEO for 17 years and finally getting a greenlight, ONLY to later on realise that this idea was used by the CEO to kill something a fuck lot of people, including yourself, loved.

@CaffeinatedFrostbite

as much as a live action remake would be cool, the modern agendas would likely ruin it

@GAMESYSTEMHUNTER

come on, treasure island may not be the most popular book in history, but its core story is very well known. if you dont know silver is the bad guy, then its on you. this is what, the 40th version of a trasure island movie?

@joestrike8537

Big fan of the movie here...the shot where the camera travels through the inn's window towards the crescent moon... which is revealed to be a space port blew me away the first time I saw the film and still does today - one of the most awesome moments in Disney's animated canon.

Early on in your video you say Treasure Planet may have been too experimental for audiences to wrap their heads around...but near the end you suggest they should've taken more creative risks?

Quite possible Eisner's long game was exactly as you speculate: starting with an unfocused ad/promotional campaign, create a deliberate flop as an excuse to decimate the studio's 2D animation staff. (Too bad the strategy didn't lead to a "Springtime for Hitler"surprise for the studio.)

My personal theory why TP flopped: they tried to appeal to too many different audiences at the same time: You had the angsty, fatherless teenager with a chip on his shoulder, "traditional" (and very different looking from Jim) animated characters (particularly the dorky Doppler), and to top it off, something for the kiddies: the blobby Morph character. It's possible each of those story elements chased away audiences who might have enjoyed the movie's other 2 aspects. (I'll give Martin Short a pass because I love the guy's over-the-top Ed Grimley energy.)

Speaking of whom, "I must say" (to quote Grimley) why is it a problem kids don't know who Martin Short is? Isn't the character more important than who's voicing them? It can be argued building animated movies around celebrity voice actors distracts from enjoying the film and its characters for itself - but it certainly helps bring adults into the theater. (Hey, come to think of it, none of the voice cast were of "name above the title" caliber - another part of Eisner's secret plot to kill Disney 2D?) The studio did manage to eke out one more 2D feature, "The Princess and the Frog" in 2009, but none since.

This one is definitely one of my favorites. I honestly wish Jim was a more prevalent meet and greet character in the parks possibly getting into a few shenanigans with Milo from Atlantis. Treasure Planet has so many scenes that could've made for awesome rides. This one is my older sister's favorite, if there was a ride for this one, I'd take her. I think it was mostly a missed opportunity, this probably could've become it's own franchise, we might have even gotten that crossover with Atlantis The Lost Empire that fans also like to make with so many of them believing Jim and Milo would be great friends. One thing's for sure though, if I ever go to a Disney Park, and Jim is around, I'm getting an autograph.

@davemac9563

This movie didn’t deserve to fail.

@tuckemon

Treasure Planet is such an underrated classic. Jim's relationship with John Silver showed that sometimes you find your family along the way.

@sassyscrofa1972

When he was a kid, my boyfriend made up tons of space pirate stories. They were inspired by his love of Star Wars & Treasure Island. When this came out & we saw that it was Treasure Island in space, we were all over it. We went to the theater five times to see it on the big screen. We still love this movie. 🥰 F the critics, 🖕 they don't know 💩
