For anyone who’s been through the nightmare of a macOS install that doesn’t connect to Apple servers, the fact this can download old disk images is amazing.
OpenCore Legacy Patcher is neat.
Crazy how that looks exactly like my 2017 air, they really didn't change the design much till 2018
As someone who does not really like mac etc, I am always amazed at the people out there keeping older equipment going.
That UGREEN charger is probably the only YouTube sponsor that I'd actually consider buying. The faces are adorable XD
Thank you for the tutorial! It really helped me to revive an old iMac 27" 2,8 GHz Quad-Core intel i7 (Late 2009). With a new SSD and some more RAM (16 GB in total now) and MacOS Sequoia installed with Open Core Legacy Patcher 2.2.0, it is flyiiiiing!!!! I am amazed how smooth it works. Everything is working apparently, Wi-fi, Bluethooth, SD slot, CD-DVD rom, camera and no problems with Sleep Mode. The booting is a bit slow (and weird), but not that bad. Hopefully there will be only minor bugs along the way.
I work at a computer repair store and we get MacBook pros like this old all the time. Every time I throw an SSD in, do opencore and get Mac OS going. It’s a lot of fun to mess around with it and see if it works well
Normally opencore legacy patcher will install the post root patches during the install but because you created the macOS installer then you chose the Mac model it didn’t automatically install it and copy it to the usb drive
I got a 2011 iMac a few years ago to play with OCLP. It's an awesome project and really brings life back into older macs. I've used it on a friends mac that whatever software they were using didn't support 10.10 anymore and they really weren't in the position to buy a new computer.
Good afternoon MJD. I have my old Macbook Pro 2012 model (A1278), maxed it out with 16 gb ram and 500gb ssd many years ago . Running on Sequoia very smoothly indeed. As the last official update for mine was Big Sur (I think). Better to be used, than sitting in a landfill.
I’m running macOS Sequoia on my own MacBook Air 2017 right now using this method, I just upgraded over the air I didn’t need a USB drive at all!
Dammit we haven't had a everything goes wrong video for so long.
I installed Sonoma to my previous MacBook Pro 2016 using OCLP and it works basically flawlessly. It's amazing how well this works
I have a Macbook pro 2013 with nvidia graphics card running sequoia, everything is super smooth, graphics is working. I was using that machine to develop apps for my iphone 16 and my apple watch
I’ve learned over the years that a 15 year old MacBook is a solid Win 10 system as well. Great video 👍
Fun seeing a vid on this after just doing the same thing on my mid 2014 Imac today.
I LOVE the modding community! Thanks for fighting against planned obsolescence 😄
Happy to witness your successful use of this remarkable software to revivify an older MacBook. I have Sequoia running on both a MacBook Air and a Pro from early 2015 after the same process. I kept making mistakes and had to restart something like six times (!) at first, but finally got it done and both are running perfectly and with all the speed I (as a "normal" home user) need. Totally pleased! Thanks for a very good video.
Hi, I contribute to the OCLP project (documentation and testing) and I'd like to shed light on couple of the issues. When you install to an empty disk, you should always format the entire disk by choosing "View -> Show All Devices" and select the topmost option on the disk tree, otherwise only the main partition will be formatted and EFI partition will not be created. I''ll add this to the documentation. Regarding autopatching, if you still have the OCLP USB drive intact, would you be able to check "/Library/Packages" path in the root of the drive (enable hidden files) and see whether "AutoPkg-Assets.pkg" and the KDK are there. This is because autopatching should work even when the drive is created from other system, so it could indicate a possible bug. Lastly, unfortunately the "an error occured during software update" is a really weird issue with unknown cause, all you can really do is try again like you did.
