When I was a teenager I worked at my local NAPA store. The owner bought an Allante brand new in '93. He was shocked to learn that car had a 50% depreciation rate after you drive if off the lot. Despite that, I felt like a rock star when he let me drive it to fill it up with gas. His model had an all digital dash display. Looked like a Star Fighter. lol

@CACressida

I seen an Allante once in my local Pick n pull over a decade ago. I thought it was an Eldorado at first glance. When i popped the hood and seen the Northstar and immediately knew why it was there. It was there for a very long time completely untouched and in very good condition cosmetically.

First time I saw one of these being worked on was at the GM Training Center in Burbank California. The entire dash was removed, there were 8 large harnesses from some kind of diagnostic machine connected to the car's harnesses and the dash harnesses. No idea what was going on with this vehicle. Our group was not in a Cadillac training class. We were passing through this diagnostic(?) room. That was back in the early 90's.
Good luck with this one Ivan, you may need it!

@njphilwt

Ivan… Thanks so much for keeping them coming through holidays!

The theft will need bypassed, read resistance on the chip of the key and Supply your own resistor in place of it. The baro is actually the map sensor reading when you cycle the key on before the car starts. Also the quad driver fault needs addressed. A quad driver is something that actually drives components associated with the engine just like drivers on a modern car.KISS on these, back to basics. Supplement a fuel source, does it run? Check for good Spark and go from there. ECM failures where common on those.

Ivan knew I was going to be bored for something to listen to while I had my coffee this morning, so he posted me a video. I feel special. 😁

@mrblonde2013

Love it Ivan, i have a '90 Rolls Royce Silver Spur waiting for me when i get back to work after Xmas, towed in as an intermittent crank, no start.😂😂😂 I feel like i am in the same boat as you, completely unfamiliar vehicle and systems and on top of that little to no service information🤔🤔🤔 thanks Ivan for your willingness to take on these oddball cases. They provide entertainment and a great learning opportunity.

@dblr616

The theft/security Iight is the start stall, that’s my opinion .. I fixed a lot of these gm theft issues in my day. So on that particular model I’m assuming, because he didn’t show it but if it’s the chip/resistor in the key, you can go to the base of the column snatch the two small white wires down cuz they are broken in the column pop the resister out of the key and solder it between the two white wires and wallah theft module or bcm is happy and releases the theft line to ecm or because of what car he is working on im sure he will be busting out his steering wheel puller and lock plate puller tool and replacing the tumbler because thats where the two white wires go to, to read the resistance

@frankvoynar6427

Ivan, as a retired german car tech ur holiday series slays me, better than watching pennstate football with my wife.. happy new year.

@gregwarren8583

Quad Drivers were used to control up to 4 items off each chip (driver). The PROM is a calibration unit and must match stored internal data. Checksum errors are internal chip errors. I would make sure you have the correct PROM installed in the ECM. Then, address the issue of Theft Deterrent if still shown as a problem, as others have sai about hhe key and ignition switch. Good Lluck!

@joekuntzman4016

Pretty cool feature, being able to read datastream parameters on built in display.

@greatreset3

It's the theft deterrent system! The wires break off of the ignition lock cylinder for reading the key chip. Classic start stall theft fault. It will never run with the theft light flashing !

@rodvan-zeller6360

At 11:34 if I remember a quad driver was a transistor arrangement that would activate several components.
I replaced a positive cable on one of those cars a long long time ago it was $500 had a built-in temp sensor.
We used to say those cars suffered from "buttonities" because of all the buttons.

@TheVespap200e

Place your bets! Yeah right! After the Christmas special, I gave up betting all together! :face-green-smiling:😀👍 Thanks for the video Ivan!:hand-purple-blue-peace:

@pnowicki879

this car brings back memories of OBD1 diagnostics on Cadillacs. Fun car to drive. Thanks.

@404notfound.....

My boss has the exact one you have including the color. It's been sitting in his garage for about fifteen years. Great video Ivan!!

@tebbi67

It seems as if Ivan lives above a magnetic field that attracts cars with the worst defects....but every time he goes into battle, brave like Don Quixote....and shows that the mind can be a sharp weapon in the noble fight against errors.
...thx for the vid

@johnclamshellsp1969

The Northstar V8 head bolts rotted away to nubs, causing failure. They have a kit available for the issue and the job is like $7000.
A large batch of the Northstar V8' water pumps had plastic pump impellers. Due to fluid friction, they would wear down and cause the engine to overheat.

@pootthatbak2578

Getting into a 93 allante interior sounds like walking up a mountain of desktop computer keyboards and sitting on the pile and squirming around.

@mikeafa1

Love these hard diagnostic mini series you have been putting out Ivan. I would say that you aren't getting too far without getting past the Security light issue and restoration proper communication to the PCM. You may have to try the other eeprom from the owner. I think she would run after that on a default strategy.
Happy new year! 2025 looks to be off to a good start!
