Dang, I'm sorry the company you worked for changed to a letter. I hate when that happens 😞
Please remember is wasn't "taken down", it just wasn't accessible in the Usited States.
It also wasn't even taken down - it was still accessible everywhere else
The ceo was at the inauguration. It was entirely political.
It also implies that they only wanted to do this in the US and not any of the other countries tiktok exists in!
There was a very "funny" message on the app that made it clear why it went down.
"A dentist office. In Ohio. In 2007. ..."
Wait people actually think that? "Yeah let's shut down Amazon so we can put our stuff in a new warehouse."
alberta formerly working for twitter is incredible lore
I genuinely want to buy your merch, that sweater is fire. 😂
I'm sorry your company came down with a severe case of idiot boss.
"5 years late migrating to Python 3" Dammit Gerard! 👀
Also remember it went down in the US. While migrating to metas servers could be a usa only thing, it's unlikely to be true if meta had bought the company.
Technical migration is basically building a second system (probably through a copy) and then at a specific moment you just route new traffic to the new system. This, like you said, was due to politics and potential legal issues from said political reasons
Not just "political reasons" but by the looks of it specifically for the purposes of propaganda, since nothing would have changed about the political situation over the time frame the app was down paired with the inclusion of an odd bootlicking display message that made no actual sense to the situation...
“I am sorry for taking down the Sparkling Water website. I didn’t realize our entire business was online. I will just have to fire 20% of our software engineering staff to cover up my mistake.” - Sincerely, your CEO.
0:13 As someone who works for a fairly large company that still takes down prod for deploys, it's nice to see Alberta's optimism
I think most people would be genuinely blown away by the infra and tooling of FAANG. I joined one after many years in the industry, and realized that their internal ecosystem is literally more advanved than any I believed existed. The most advanved Kubernetes/Jenkins/etc deployment with all the bells and whistles available from cloud hosting providers used in the most elegant way is literally childs play in comparison.
I love to hear you, I never understand the entire video because I'm not a programmer but gur you have such a nice vibe!!!
