Bombs in Stratego aren't removed when another piece hits it. Bombs are only removed if a miner (the 3 piece) hits it

@Patashu

Bots being able to master hidden information games is super impressive to me. Poker is another really hard one that finally fell, and stuff like Starcraft and DotA is also interesting

@nahometesfay1112

Great video! I think Deepmind's work is relatively underrated compared to generative AI projects like ChatGPT. I wish there was more effort put into creating explainable AI. In low stake situations like Stratego it's a hindrance but it's essential in fields like medicine.

@AZALI00013

oh my god i loved stratego

@EllipticalReasoning

It's unfortunate that the core of stratego strategy boils down to 'play really boring'

Interesting that DeepNash wasn't able to utilize my older brother's strategy that he implemented on me growing up:
If your opponent is using the red pieces, and the game board is AT ALL backlit, you can quite easily see through the thin plastic units to determine if they are a bomb or not. This does not work on the blue pieces.

As a child whose favorite color was red, that was a tough skill-gap to overcome!

@metaflight9495

Probably a good sign that an a.i.'s prefered win condition is extracting surrender rather than forced capitulation or annihilation.

@Figgy20000

What the comment section has shown me is that no one even bothers to read the rules before playing and just makes shit up. Even the video gets the rules wrong. And no the rules havent been updated 4000 times, you just didnt bother to read or understand them.

@SafeTrucking

Great analysis! I haven't played Stratego for a very long time, but you jogged a lot of memories. Thank you.

@brucedavis9191

I remember when Marshals were 1s and Scouts were 9s.

@dreamer5959

I had an electronic Stratego that revealed who won the battle but not what the winning piece was

@Kevorama0205

Great presentation and analysis!

@luisbueno8273

Just noting on a small mistake: chess has 10^44 legal positions. Your 10^123 figure probably comes from Victor Allis and regards tree complexity, "based on an average branching factor of 35 and an average game length of 80", So the calculation is literally just 35^80. It is a pretty crude estimation in my opinion since it is so full of converging games that it results in a number that is 10^76 times more than the actual number of legal positions, but it sounds good so you hear it a lot in the chess world

@gamcd

Really well made video, great explanations and you keep it entertaining

@newplace2frown

Not showing a deepnash game at the end is criminal!

@therealgathe

Dude, how in the world is this under 100 views? Awesome video - great subject choice, excellent presentation, and a clean level of visual polish for any channel, let alone one with 1k subs! Super fun to watch, keep doing what you’re doing man. This shit works.

@soldiersofduck

In my version of Stratego there was an alternate rule you could use called "Aggressor's Advantage"- attacking player wins ties. IMHO it makes a much better game- far less passive. Perhaps the masters would disagree, but for me just tryna finish a game in less than 600 moves it's quite nice.

Cool video! Wish you the best of luck on your journey, from another small YouTuber :)
