@superse3000

The Wii U Accually doesn’t emulate it it has a full Wii in it

@TheGlitchyMario

The Wii was basically an overclocked GameCube, and the Wii u had Wii hardware, so the backwards compatibility was because they share the same architecture.

@SecretAgentSans

The way the wii plays GameCube games is because of the fact that it they have the same architecture as each other effectively making the wii a GameCube 2. This lets the wii play GameCube games without any emulation or ports. The way the wii u plays wii games is the same as the 3ds. When you play a ds game or choose to go to the wii menu, it puts the console into a "ds" mode or "wii" mode that doesn't interact with the rest of the console

@Vortexgng

Yes. Yes Cdotkom I am subscribed.

@compooterstuff

The wii and Wii U do the same thing, no emulation on either, it just limits the power and ram and then runs it natively

@dinixx-v8h

that one kid: what is a wii u

@Spo.okyKnight

Switch 1= ahahay Switch 2= YAHAHA

@DinoDude65600

It’s genuinely so nice seeing someone excited for and wanting to learn more about the Switch 2 when literally everyone else online is just complaining about prices.

@Kit-the-Kitty

The Wii U can actually play GameCube games due to the Wii hardware inside, although they need to be loaded from a USB drive or SD card. The way the Switch 2 runs Switch games by using a translation layer to take the Switch 1 data and convert it into calls the Switch 2 understands, which is actually how Steam runs Windows games on Linux (and by proxy, the Steam Deck.)

@CXIgaming6170

I wonder if we’ll be able to play GET UP on the Switch 2?

@Omnicrome-0

Something interesting actually is that the consoles like the wii and wii u dont actually play past games through emulation but rather run the games natively by having the components of the older console in the newer one, but they must've not been able to make the switch 1 components compatible with the switch 2

@PseudoCode1090

Bro just described how emulation work 💀😭🙏

@RoxieProxy

The Wii and Wii U don't use emulation for backwards compatibility, it was all native hardware. The Wii was heavily based on the GameCube hardware, and the Wii U had a Wii motherboard built into it. The Switch 2 is too different from the original for native backwards compatibility, hence why Nintendo looked into software emulation. But that would've been too taxing on the hardware, so now we have a hardware/software emulation hybrid that acts a lot like compatibility layers for running Windows games on Linux (like how you described "translating" code)

@GNackers53

Interesting. But can you play those same games when you switch back to the Switch 1?

@skyj5606

Nintendo shouldve made the switch 2 a combo of a switch 2 and hypothetical 4DS. A dual screen, portable, and being able to be connect to the TV wouldve left sony and micro in the absolute dust. Especially if the switch 2s top screen was detachable. Maybe the switch 2 pro could have a dual screen (hopefully) or wait 7 years for switch 3

@ScarySloth456

My heart stopped for a second at the beginning

@FreddieThekoifish

So basically google translate but for switch 1 and 2

@maroonmball

What's cool is that the DS and 3DS have built-in GBA hardware; it's not emulated.

@Bighaid91

The Wii U is based on Wii architecture and the Wii is based on GCN architecture. That’s why those consoles are backwards compatible.

@xArkSlade08x

They will probably add the apps to play previously Nintendo console games with Nintendo Switch 2 membership plans. Like they do with Nintendo Switch.
