I always go to work super early to avoid an hour commute in bumper to bumper traffic which sucks as in the WRX!
I was just thinking about this today. I've had mine for a week coming from a manual Lancer and the STI is not happy in stop and go traffic. Plus obviously I can feel the stiff suspension but I already knew what I was getting into.
I almost purchased a 2005 Subaru WRX wagon with 71K miles on it and I was going to use that as my daily and I was going to modify the heck out of it to make it fun since it was completely stock. The car was flawless! The bank only gave me a few thousand dollars after the appraisal so the guy didn't make the deal with me. I currently own a 2017 WRX STI Limited - Red as well! Anyway, I catch myself wanting more power but like you said in your post, I do not want to give SOA any reason to not exercise a claim on a warranty if the engine ever goes down.
I drove a 2008 STI (same EJ engine as current model) and the daily commute was as you described until I purchased the COBB Accessport - the Stage 1 Map difference was on the stability and ease of driving the vehicle, the gas pedal was very touchy and boost response was All over, but after adding the Stage 1 Map it has made the starting from 1st gear and shifting so much smoother. The boost response is better and doesn't even tickle boost unless you want it to. As far as power, it has gained some power at the low end.
You should see Houston and San Antonio traffic lmao
I have Corolla and I pick up my new STI tomorrow. Glad I decided to keep my Corolla for my daily drive. I have a 30 mile commute one way in Boston traffic....sounds like I would hate life if all I had was the STI. Thanks for sharing the experience.
I'm daily commuting in 2018 civic type r,...in comfort mode, which really tames the beast,..you really forget you're in a hi performance car after awhile, it just feels like a regular civic with cool seats. I was debating constantly,..whether to get the STI or the Type R,..but after your video I am thinking I made the right choice for my lifestyle.
I've always driven performance cars (well except for the last two years when I had a CRZ). I like the raw racy feel even in traffic. But I hear ya about not being able to have fun when you're stuck behind slowbies (which happens every day to me). But there is always that ever-sweet highway on ramp! :O) Today I tested out Intelligent mode and left the DCCD in full auto to see if gas mileage improved. I think I got around 20mpg. Not as good as I'd hoped. This car is costing me a sh1t ton of gas money but that's probably because I'm just used to driving a hybrid. For the fun factor, it's well worth it though. I better not see a video of you trading this car in for a Forester or something!!! :)
I feel your pain! The worst part for me is I am new to stick. I have been thinking about this ever since I got my 2017 STI.
if your job allows it maybe try to work from home a couple days per week.
I avoid highways here, especially I-25. The Colorado traffic is not Tuner friendly(clutching)
Hey brother. I live in Alaska where the winters are brutal. I'm currently driving a 09 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS (first car) with winter tires and it's not that bad up here. However, I was thinking about switching to the dark side ;]. After watching the this video and reading the comments, I'm thinking the WRX would be good for me since I'm constantly driving to one place to another daily (due to work). What you think? Any help is appreciated!
Would you go back to your wrx?? I am between an STI and a WRX.
How many miles do you drive? I'm planning on getting the STI ... I'll be commuting for 40 miles one way. Takes about 2 hours in LA traffic.
My 16 STi is my d/d , I find a lot of haters on the daily commute.
i own an evo x and i daily drive it in areas with bumper to bumper traffic and also with steep hills. it does get tiring after a while but its not as bad as everyone says it is. because these cars dont have adjustable suspension like other cars, the ride will beat you up. in terms of gas mileage, not hitting boost saves gas but it is still terrible compared to other cars out there. the main issue with stop n go traffic is that it will wear your clutch quicker as well as your brakes.
I feel the same way. I saw reviews before I got my 17 sti. They say the suspension is tight. I thought I wouldn't mind it my suspension is dead in my 92 Celica. It won't be that bad in the sti. Holy shit I want wrong. I live in Canada with the worst ever winters. So our roads are shit. I feel every crack and bump in the road. Another thing about the sti. Is the the amount of having to shift up down up down. The gears are so short. Not fun. It's annoying. Would I buy the car all over again? HELL YEAH bc race car. I still have my 92 Celica. I have both cars insured so I switch back and forth on my daily commuting so the option is nice. Financially stupid though. Ah well. Pay to play. Drive hard but safe dude. :)
video is about your commute...shouldve known that before the purchase
Pathetic if an STI is too much to drive daily...
