What the hell? How did this not take-off? Mauro Ranallo (announcer), Jack Evans (AAA), TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd), Teddy Hart, Nattie Neidhart (ring announcer and WWE Diva), Harry Smith - even Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey. They make the promotion we all know look like old men in slow motion.

@shiki232

You can hear Mauro Ranello commentating on the match as well

@ianhitman

It was all raw footage, but the concept would have been pretty cool at the time with some quality production. That's why Bischoff and Hervey were there. This had the makings of a pretty wicked concept.

@redglassesentertainment

I honestly think that this is impressive, but it lacks any structure, and feels more like an endless spotfest than a real match. Definatly not the worst I've seen.

I had this wild thought this morning...whatever happened to the upstart wrestling promotion that focused on teenaged wrestlers in a club-like atmosphere, with tons of screaming girls, platforms on top of each ringpost, and was planning to stream their high-flying wrestling to our computers?

Google did not fail me; it was MatRats. I nearly forgot Eric Bischoff and Harry Smith were part of it. The wrestling is good (their technique is fine, lucha-inspired stuff, and they take time to sell and build drama, rather than going full-on to a finish without a stop), and the "launchpads" are an interesting, helpful addition (think of how those things could save so many indy wrestlers the physical and ego trauma of botched springboard moves).

This could've been a kind of youthful, PG Era Wrestling Society X or Lucha Underground type of show, if only they had the brisk Web connectivity back then that we enjoy today. (Not to mention the cash, the sponsors, the okays and waivers from the workers' parents, and several dozen other hurdles...)

Ah, well, youth is wasted on the young.

@ianhitman

If broadband, netflix and iPPV was available during the boom period, alot of stuff like this would have been a success. There's just no investors willing to put money into wrestling anymore. Back then there was investors but no real platform to air it. Matrats would have been a pretty cool venture for an ippv company.

@dmfalc

I like the platforms on top of the ringposts in each corner, you can do some cool stuff off that i bet!

@seanwilkinson3975

It appears this is the only example of MatRats that has survived. Oh, dear.
