A Croat here. I've been to Bulgaria 13 years ago with some Croat friends. One night we're drunk and driving in a tram through the center of Sofia - trying to get to our hostel on Macedonia Bulevard. We were wondering out loud if this tram would actually take us to Macedonia Bulevard. (No smartphones/google maps back then! - at least we didn't have it.) Suddenly the tram stops. The driver approached us and started yelling that there is no Macedonia only Bulgaria! We tried to explain but he just went back to the driver seat and continued to drive. We got out at the main train station and asked some street hookers for directions. They were kind and told us how to get to our destination. We gave them couple of cigarettes. In the dead of night, without much street light and being followed by stray dogs we somehow managed to find it. Then we opened another bottle of wine to celebrate our happy return. Ahhh Bulgaria.

As a Bulgarian I can give you a really important survival tip. If you are in Sofia and someone asks you “levski or cska” if you want to survive say ‘I don’t know “ since you have 50/50 chance of survival 😀
