"The suppression of uncomfortable ideas may be common in religion or in politics, but it is not the path to knowledge. And there's no place for it in the endeavor of science." I have never heard this before and now love this quote.
I am a country folk. Raised out in the mountains. My mom used to shoot the 20 gauge in a pattern to let us know to come home. I say this because I want to stress that I am not the type to draw a tear very often. When I heard you break down suppression of info instead of debate … You made my eyes water up. You Sirr are not a national treasure you are a worldly treasure in a world so lost, conditioned we all drink someone else’s Kool aid with no awareness of how few thoughts are our own. Keep holding your ground, honest critical thinking is a dying art and we must keep remnants of it alive for the future generations …. History is repeating its self. They burn books differently these day but with the same tactics. Thank you good Sirr
As a welder, we’re taught not to arc off the metal while we’re welding, because it leaves very obvious scars on the metal. When I heard you talking about arcs that travel planet to planet I got chills thinking about how big those arcs would have to be in order to carve out VALLEYS. 😅 This is the kind of content that I live for!!
So think about this, nobody knows how gravity is created, just that mass attracts mass. However all mass is held together by three things: Electromagnetic Force, Strong Nuclear Force, & Weak Nuclear Force, and more mass you have, the more of these forces are together. Creating gravity. All some kind of form of electricity. All life runs on electricity. The nerve impulses are a form of electricity. Electricity, a form electromagnetic force goes as fast as the speed of light. So with this, both theories can be true. There is so much more to think about.... Love you AJ & Hecklefish
In growing up my Father was a stern person but, he always said to me "prove me wrong and I'll change my mind..." It was rare but there was the occasional time when I could prove him wrong in his thinking.. Love that man for the fact, aside from being my Father, he could change his way of thinking and support my opinion.. Science should conduct themselves in this manner: Prove me wrong and I'll change my way of thinking.. Believe me, I really had to do my homework to change Dad's mind but I did win a few disagreements.. God I miss that man....
'If an elderly but distinguished scientist says that something is possible, he is almost certainly right; but if he says that it is impossible, he is very probably wrong.' Arthur C. Clark Great video, keep them coming!
Highlight of my Saturday night right here. The older I get, the less eventful life gets and it’s the small things like your videos that help brighten the day. So thank you, and to everyone who helps support this channel. Edit- appreciate the kind words from everyone who took the time to read and comment back. Y’all got a big heart and aren’t afraid to show it in this cranky world we live in ❤️😁
I would love an episode on the gaps in modern physics. It really bothers me that there is no such thing as infinite, until they can't explain the size of the universe. Also nothing can travel faster than the speed of light, until mathematics falls apart at the big bang and the universe eccelerates faster than light. I'd love you to shine a light on this and how we are stuck trying to figure out string theory at all costs to other ideas. Great channel. Great episode. Keep up the good work
I actually requested this topic... I can't believe you really did it.. Thank you so much!!! You guys really do listen to us. Y'all are amazing 👏 Bravo to the best channel on here.
You concluded this with some of the most eloquent content this channel has ever produced. Your dedication to these videos is greatly appreciated. One word to describe your work: Exceptional.
“You persuade with compassion and kindness, not insults and injury” What a perfect quote.
You know, the more I listen to you opine on various things, the more I realize, I don't just like watching your videos, I actually like you as a person. The world needs more people like you who are kind and open minded. Thanks AJ. The world is a better place with you here. AND you're super entertaining and have very well researched episodes.
One of my absolute favorite qualities of this channel is that you don't bias either side of the story of the episode with a patronizing or sarcastic tone, obviously showing your opinion on the matter without technically saying it. Youre an excellent orator, dude. And lastly - this one may sound weird but what the hell I'll say it anyways - having found this channel shortly after you started it I feel like I have seen you develop and grow as a media figure and all I can say is that I'm very proud of all that you've accomplished in such a short amount of time. I actually caught myself cheering for you when I saw you on an episode of The unexplained with William shatner. Keep up the good work dude I'm hoping for many more years of your content!
The last 10 minutes of this episode were incredibly powerful. As a scientist myself, I am constantly amazed at how close-minded and fragile many of my colleagues are when it comes to mainstream (read "acceptable") beliefs. As with everything, at least one or two or our major, fundamental understandings of the universe will definitely be shown to be wildly incorrect, but you are still not allowed to question some things. The work you do is more important than you know. You are reaching 100's of millions of people and asking them, for a second, to question everything. Thats real power.
You're 100% right about science being used a weapon nowadays instead of bettering humanity.
I was once very disappointed when I asked the wrong question in my physics class and was given an absurd answer. Nor was I allowed to question why the lab experiments didn't seem to work out the way they should. Instead of explanation and an increase I understanding, I was threatened with a lower grade. Eventually, I gave up and changed majors. But here is the point: science had already become a religion. Certain things had to be accepted on faith. And, as you implied, faith has no place in science. Science either has to absolutely prove its tenets or do more research and keep looking for The Truth. But at some point, we are going to ask ourselves, "What is Truth?" A lot of soul searching needs to be done before we can actually know nature. Thank you for your more honest approach. I loved this show.
"You persuade with kindness." To a refugee from 40 years in academia, this is profound wisdom and goodness. Thank you, Dr. Fischer
The theory about Saturn’s proximity to earth is interesting because astronomically it’s incredibly rare to find gas giants as far away from their star as Saturn is from the Sun.
Just want to say to the cast and crew: this is currently the only show on any platform that my wife and I actively look forward to. With that said, an episode dropping a couple days later than originally scheduled is NOT a big deal. We're just as happy to be watching tonight. I really hope you all are okay, and are taking care of yourselves. THANK YOU for doing what you do, but please take good care of yourselves.
