I bet that travel insurance was the best invested couple of hundred pounds you've ever had! 😂 Great video
Really great video, guys! I got to drive an XL1 when they were new… cannot imagine such a journey in one! Well done!!!
Waited 2 years for the video and the intro is better than anyone could have imagined. ❤
Great vid' - SUBSCRIBED! Can't believe you're only at 2k subs. Just really good to see someone trying to put this car in an honest context, whilst openly saying they can't really, because it's not built for the US.
Wow, I can't believe you took that out in the snow!!! The tires' slim width would help it in those conditions, so no surprise you enjoyed it.
Great to see all the footage put together. I was following your trip on Twitter at the time, and it did seem to get quite scary at the end of the trip! I'd love to do a comparison of a modern diesel, a hybrid and a full electric over the full coast-to-coast distance. Also, hi you your other half, the long suffering and lesser seen hubby :D
Great to see the whole trip in one video
I’ve seen some of the footage previously on Jim’s channel but it’s neat to see it presented in this fashion. Although the tech inside the XL1 is compromised it still looks fresh all these years later.
I had always loved the idea of the XL1 as a car, so I was especially disgusted by VW faking the economy figures (or being economic with the truth). Mind you, VW is the company that gassed us all with Diesel Gate and faked emissions data. I am normally not so outspoken / violent with my language about these things, but we would have all been really impressed with 105 mpg so why did they do that. I get that the old way of measuring economy didn't work for hybrids, but if VW had an ounce of integrity they would have given a range of figures and have carefully caveated the data. Great video, my father died of Alzheimers in December so I appreciate your support of the cause.
Sad VW did not innovate on the principles started with this vehicle. A couple of non OEM developers took some of the principles further and have designed a concept car capable of 1,000 miles on a charge. Sad an OEM had no true vision of what would be needed and produce a similarly efficent design.
I love your channel - such varied content, but you two are ace 👍
The 313MPG is a bit if a red herring. It might do that for the first 100 miles, but it won't do that for another 100.
Only 88 mpg??? My Gen 1 Honda Insight has gotten 84 MPG for lots cheaper 🤭
The Gay Doug Demuro!
The XL1 videos were the reason I started following you two. As ever, I blame Ian HubNut.
How did this car has legally registered in the US? Show and display if I would guess.
The mileage is by the standard NEFZ consumption test. A very optimistic Standard that MUST BE USED in Europe at this time. And everyone in Europe then knows that the NEFZ mileage is everything but correct in real traffic. Real consumtion is often 20-30% higher.
Amazing adventure, guys 👍😄
I still don’t get what is the average mpg you found?
