I started uploading videos on February 5th of this year. My channel is around 73 days old. I'm 80 subs away from 11k subscribers as of right now. I've not tried to work on the watch hours yet. Just uploading 15 to 25 second shorts. I am 71 one years old. I love my niche!!!! Oh, and I am extremely blessed to have wonderful subscribers too!!!!!!! I think I have reached that 97%!!!
Anyone who has a small channel keep going don’t give up on your passion. We are all in this together!
Just hit 30 subs this morning! Feeling motivated to keep this going
This is so encouraging. We’ve been documenting our weight loss journey- struggles and all- on just our iPhone, a $30 mic, and one soft box light that we only use when in our “basement studio” that just has one lamp we already had and a picture with our logo “stay strong”…. But most of the time we’re filming in our kitchen. We got monetized in 5 months and now up to 40k subscribers. It’s crazy— but now I see why. It’s that vulnerability and emotional connection etc that we’ve built with our audience. Just need to lean into that even more for the next 50k subscribers.
I’m a chubby grandma with 309 so far subscribers growing slowly, yoga dance and fitness for 65+, having a ball in retirement with a legacy channel. I’ve been teaching these programs for 50 years and now YouTube gives me a whole new challenge. It’s exciting.
I have an outdoor teaching channel. I try to teach and tell stories at the same time. It grew the channel to 275k subs in 1 year. Life is very different now. 🤝🏼🤝🏼🤝🏼
I watch a channel like DeWayne at Dry Creek Wrangler school, he doesn’t have a fancy setup, he doesn’t try to hook within the first 30 seconds to keep you watching. His content is his wisdom and that’s what really gets viewers and subs. Authenticity is king!
A bigger content creator I watch has distanced herself emotionally from the audience, not sharing as much personal information. Rather, she makes videos about subjects that can help the viewer. I used to be so excited to watch her videos every week. Now I don’t know if I care. So this shows me how important that emotional connection piece really is!
At times I feel sharing my experiences is perceived as trauma dumping but once I connect with my supporters in the comments it makes me feel so connected to them. It’s worth sharing my story
I’ve been struggling with self-doubt lately, thinking I was falling behind, but this video helped shift my mindset. Seeing others grow at different paces reminded me that slow progress isn’t failure—it’s still progress. Thank you for the motivation 🙏 And thank you for all the effort you put into making such a valuable video. Looking forward to more content from you.
6 months ago I started posting long form videos seriously EVERYDAY and Ive hit over 2100 subs and 28,000 watch hours. It's not a lot by any means but It has helped me sooooo much with my "business", I wish I would have started sooner. I have basically extended my reach to everyone in the US vs just my state. If you own a business or you are in sales and don't have a YouTube channel you are missing a HUUUUUGE opportunity to grow.
18:40 something that helps if you’re new to filming yourself, pretend your phone / camera is a specific person, like a friend. I still do this 5 years into filming and it helps me to be more authentic bc talking to a camera can be so awkward.
Sean, these insights are very helpful! Over the summer, I got fired for making Youtube videos at work so now I'm going all in. These are my personal notes for my future self. 3:10 - I use to struggle with this too and based on my experience… Experience-Expertise-Authoritativeness-Trustworthiness 8:50 - Show your learning process, how do you learn what you know Show your research process, notes, and how you figure it out 10:30 - Create a series (i.e. part 1 of 4 etc…) 11:45 - Sharing struggles builds more trust than only showing successes Be vulnerable. People connect with your struggle before your successes 14:10 - Share your scars not your open wounds (aka current struggles) 15:20 - 97% care more about emotional connection over video quality 16:50 - 5 Questions to ask before recording: What's the takeaway beyond the information 19:20 - Epiphany bridge 21:40 - You don't need the perfect background
I've followed your channel for years, and the content has always been helpful. I discovered your channel through your technical reviews of photography lenses, which I highly recommend watching. Today, you highlighted a key point about vulnerability in storytelling. I've seen people sharing raw emotions on social media without structure or purpose. When you discussed your scar and how to find reasonable solutions to difficulties, it was very helpful. Being completely vulnerable about painful issues that are still healing can be pointless and dangerous without proper context. Thank you for sharing.🙌🏽🙏🏽⚡
I'm a new travel channel and I struggle between giving enough value vs just showing the imperfect moments that make me more authentic. I Thanks for reminding me that it's also valuable to share the journey, and being comfortable with the imperfect!
Love the specificity of your suggestion to share the scar rather than the open wound—and the focus on emotional connection rather than technical expertise!
I am glad he mentioned not worrying about your space and film in your environment. My basement can be cramped, but im doing it anyway.
good luck all
I just hit 1k subs, but this resonates with me. My content has changed over the past few months..now i am sharing more real video’s not a head shot and b-roll but more honesty and having my dogs (my channel is about injuries in dogs) as part of the story…will see how it goes..been a long haul!
