The fact that THE dragonstorm. Was just passed over in the story and maro himself said 'we skipped it, we didnt have time for cards' when we used to get blocks to tell stories. It really feels like a kick in the junk

@severdislike4222

The growing problem is named "The Hasbro Executive Board"

@Alexadecimal

Past me: "Well, at least it can't get any sillier than vampire wedding set, right?"
Present me: nervous laughter

@rowan1598

I fell in love with Magic during Theros and RtR, leading up to the tarkir block that just blew me away. I miss those days, where blocks would tell stories, not just a one-off story to sell a product.

@thetrinketmage

I feel like a lot of these hat sets would feel way better if they had no recurring characters. Nobody would be mad if a new demon was the muscle in the gang but it feels weird cause that doesn't make sense for Rakdos to do! If we then have new characters wearing the hats it won't feel out of place cause that character loves their hat and it makes sense!

@MangaMaster13

Prof: "Did you even know there were teams?"
Me: "There were teams?"

@taylorroarkpayton

Yes. I feel like this video perfectly articulate exactly how I feel. I started to play magic gathering at the release of Journey to Nyx, and instantly fell in love with the lore and the aspect of being a spellcaster.

Now, it feels like mtg has been corporatized for max profit and to pander to anybody who has a fandom in anything.

@GodDogofVice

I over the years have not agreed with a lot of what the professor has had to say(except for his mtg accessory reviews, which were always on point), but he is 100% right about what he said in this video and perfectly captured my opinion(and many long time player's) regarding the state of the world of MTG. Well done professor.

@santuli_91

There's nothing I could say to add to this. Prof so accurately described how I've been feeling about magic in the last few years. Yet sets like Bloomburrow, Foundations, and hopefully Tarkir keep me hopeful. I just want more of these sets in the future, and not so many hat sets, especially back-to-back like we've gotten in the last year.

@mika-in-the-internet

I wish we rolled back to 3-set blocks and core set.

@theopeneyes

MTG has just become "Fortnite the card game" at this point, which is a depressing thought...

@thomaspetrucka

You are not alone. After 30 years, this game is truly more than the sum of its parts. (and how many parts there are!) Reducing it to "Magic...but cowboys!" or "Magic...but racecars!" Will always feel like a betrayal.

@Redcoat86

Easy to explain Prof - these sets are the fevered dreams of Nicol Bolas as he slowly goes mad from boredom locked in Ugins colourless prison.

My brother and I spent a little while rethinking how Karlov Manor could have been done in a way that highlights the plane rather than ignoring it for the sake of fedoras. We thought that it would be so much better if they had highlighted the effects of the omenpaths by connecting with another plane, say new capenna, and make it a 2-set block, the first one is focused on ravnica, the buildup to the murder, which gets framed on the cabaretti. So the second set can follow Alquist Proft having to navigate the complex politics of new capenna to uncover the truth of it all.

I really miss when magic cared to use its unique strength as a storytelling medium for anything within their own universe

@stuart1745

is anyone gonna mention that with 6 sets a year and 3 years for standard, we will soon have 18 sets in standard. ~7200 cards.

@dunstonlion1342

The universes are coming from INSIDE the house!!!

@zappernapper

You brought up flavor text, and some of my favorites, I still quote:
"You cannot prepare for the unexpected, you can only prepare to be surprised."
"Reality is my thread. My will the needle, I weave over you, as if you never were."
