I love how the curriculum literally just says learn python, learn the comp sci fundamentals, and prepare for the interview. XD Straight facts

@coletroutman1060

If you go to a large university and put yourself out there, then yes, a degree is worthwhile. So much of being successful comes down to who you know

@m4rt_

The problem is that in my country, nobody takes you seriously unless you have one. They just think that you don't have the skills without even asking or testing you.

@lifting_and_coding

Honestly CS degrees are underrated. Do you need one? No. But it helps a lot in getting your foot in the door

@Daysonshuffle

2 weeks in and my head is spinning 😵‍💫

@PerfectBonzo

Software Engineering is not about programming though. Let’s talk about grammars, parsers, compilers, RISC architectures, cryptography, symmetric keys, network protocols, state machines, regular engineering stuff (maths, lot of maths, physics, electronics, digital electronics, etc.)… but good luck with your python script, that looks fun, nothing like Kirchhoff or “make the following algorithm run in O(log n)”

@nobodycares3900

I am pretty sure you need a Bachelor's degree in order to be a navy officer.

@Louisianish

People with military experience usually get hiring preference, so that could've played a part in your friend getting a job at Microsoft right after completing a boot camp.

@charlesdavis1231

Currently enrolled in College going for my bachelors in Computer science with a concentration of software development. Although I am not taking coding class in college yet, I am learning coding on my own to get ahead.

@KillerKobold2121

Alternative alternative, if you want a CS degree, thats affordable, i can recommended University of the People, a remote online college that charges like 120 for exams, and that is IT. You can leave the place with a degree pretty cheap, compared to most colleges and cheaper than some of the coding bootcamps ive seen.

@WOW23455

I remember as a child up to about 10 years of age i just did things. After about after about 12 years of school. I learned to judge my self, School made me fearful and of things i did not know. I lost my creativity after 15 years of sitting in a classroom and being told i was wrong. It was lawful for teachers to use the wipe, so i learned to fear things i did not know because any time I expected to be hit with a ruler. So I stayed away from things I did not know and told my self i was dounce thats what 17 years of school did to me.The only thing i learn is i was dounce . Then i notice there were people who i was not as i telligent as me and was doing better than me they hard the confidence and were willing to just do it.Me once i could not do it i ketp away from it. Because I unconsciously i did not want that ruler to hit me. Done talk. Thats what school did to me. Now that I know it I am learning all over again. Fckng school ruined my life.

@dan-garden

I've been a software engineer for 9 years and don't have any degree. But I understand that I'm the exception, if I could go back and do a degree first I would.

Me - how do i learn to code

Coding boot camps compared to an actual degree don’t go nearly as in depth into complex topics like computer architecture, data structures, and the logic behind computers and it’s applications. If a company had to choose between a college graduate with a BA in SWE or CS or someone who’s completed a coding bootcamp, they’ll pick the college graduate 100% of the time.

@WinterSoldier100

Navy officers typically hold a bachelor's degree of some type and chances are that this officer spent 4-20ish years working in tech on the military side of things. Not a great example to appeal to the average Joe.

@SirBearingtonSupporter

It’s so strange seeing these because I can answer every single leetcode Question you can throw at me. I’ve read the book. I’ve done my résumé. I have my github. I have even developed applications for small businesses…

 Yet, I can’t seem to get a single interview

I have better luck getting interviews for senior management as like a director of IT then I do for a junior or mid-level software development position

I think I have a better shot of just trying to take my ideas and make money with that then I do with actually getting a stable job

@zisakmc4889

Getting cs degree will help alot in understanding the fundamental of computing and how it works.
