When asked how Fascism starts, Bertrand Russell once said: "First, they fascinate the fools. Then, they muzzle the intelligent."
Jason Stanley's decision to leave the U.S., as discussed in Amanpour and Company, reflects growing concerns about the state of democracy and rising authoritarian trends. His insights on how fascism takes root are a call to remain vigilant and informed during turbulent times. In uncertain political and economic climates, it’s also essential to secure your personal future. You can learn the art of making money and take control of your financial path. Madalina Loredana Andrei truly changed my life. Speaking from personal experience, if you're going through financial struggles or simply want to improve your financial situation, you can trust Madalina. She's honest, reliable, and genuinely wants to help.
Watching from the UK, this is terrifying. The most powerful military in the world with fascists in charge does not bode well.
You know, when the historian of fascism wants to leave the country, we are in big trouble
As a Canadian, it is my sincere hope that welcoming someone like Professor Stanley to our country, will help us in the long run by helping to educate students about the warning signs and pitfalls of potential descent into fascism. We need to be mindful that Canada is not immune to the threat of fascism. We must learn from the mistakes being made by our neighbor to the south, and hopefully avoid them.
"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a Bible" Trump has appeared in public doing both.
Me and my family are black and feel what Prof. Stanley feels. I have a masters in political science and this is textbook descent into fascism. And Jim Crow was only a few decades ago, my dad who grew up not having the same rights as whites in the south is still alive. The signs of a return to that era are starting to emerge. My wife has has UK citizenship which is our escape plan, but Canada may be the move if we can get in with our critical skills.
This is the best explanation of what’s going on that I have heard. Pay attention, America. This is where we are.
Belgian here. The professor is more than welcome to my place. Vive la Liberté.
What has happened here is tragic. I remember Masha Gessen warning in 2016 that fascism is a slippery slope. And slide we did.
I work at a top Canadian research university, and we routinely welcome scholars from all over the world. Prof. Stanley and other global thought leaders will find a strong and free academic home here. 🇨🇦
Europe, Canada, Latin America, Asia, etc. are about to get a massive wave of talent. No qualified and educated person who has a democratic outlook wants to live in this madness.
Imagine having a history so bad that you try to prevent others from learning about it.
Excellent interview 👏 If Jason Stanley moves to Canada, we will be very fortunate to have him. Elbows up Canada 🇨🇦
This host is consistently the most insightful, substantive interviewer I have ever seen. It is such a relief to see really good interviews that get to the heart of the issues.
Torontonian here - I've been wondering when the academics might begin to migrate north. It's disturbing that it has to be done, but we will welcome Professors Stanley, Snyder, and Shore whole heartedly!
As a Canadian I am very happy that academics like Jason Stanley are leaving the U.S. for Canada. 🇨🇦
Thank you Professor Jason Stanley for sounding the alarm. From a European/Danish perspective, it is the only right decision. We must fight fascism in the East and the West - together we are strong.
As a Canadian living near Toronto, I would like to express my pleasure in welcoming Stanley and his family to Canada.
