Mehmet had to cope with all the ultimate level bosses, Hunyadi, Skenderbeg, Vlad... Ottoman rise was never a walk in the park. Suleiman though, had a much luckier inheritence and played on easy mode.

@rampaginwalrus

If anyone else was wondering, the island next to Belgrade is named Great War Island and the reason they didn't fortify the island is simply because it's a sedimentary island. The entire island is made from accumulated sediment washed down the Danube and Sava rivers. Up until the 15th century, it was most likely more of a sand bank than a proper island.

Either way, building fortifications on the island would have been impossible. The ground isn't even stable enough to build a bridge. The location of Belgrade Fortress, however, is a rocky hill with excellent natural fortifications and a solid foundation for construction.

Love the continuation of this series as well as the updated details showing the strongholds and topography!

Would love a new Napoleon series with all the improvements you’ve made over the years!

@Alec.40

I think y'all's ottoman videos are the best, I find myself really being pulled into the experience. It's like I'm there

@jjduncan4285

I'm really happy you guys are starting season 2 so quickly after the first. I love this series.

@CufCufImam

The news of Mehmed's death caused great rejoicing in Europe; church bells were rung, and celebrations held. The news was proclaimed in Venice thus: "La Grande Aquila è morta!" ('The Great Eagle is dead!')

@anthonyfrench3169

I just finished the first season and was super happy to see this on my notification email.

@matthewwall-so9or

The best series is back

@joshdoldersum9132

Hell yeah! The Ottoman long form documentary is one of my favourites to play in the background.

@sirunklydunk8861

Serbians: We defeated Mehmed! Nothing can stop us now!

Bacteria: Allow us to introduce ourselves.

Since it was a Hungarian town, worth mentioning hers Hungarian names Nandorfehervar as well. Hunyadi was one of the greatest military commanders of Hungarian history a seasoned veteran of Turkish wars. Later his younger son Matthias became king of Hungary who fended off Ottomans for decades. Victory at Nandorfehervar was probably the sole occasion when a sultan was defeated in Europe. This event was so important and celebrated that pope ordered to ring bells at noon. Practised till today.

I may add:

-Mehmet was also an architect. You dont really read about this, but if you visit some fort-museums in Canakkale, there are detailed description about how he designed and innovated fortifications.

-Lots of royal romans switched sides to the Ottomans after the conquest. To the point that there is contemporary commentary about how the Ottoman entourage essentially turned greek. They did convert, adopt turkish names and essentially assimilated, but people still pointed it out.

-The rebuilding effort is a policy that was not only conducted on Constantinople, but on the Balkan. Cities like Sarajevo are Ottoman-founded. Belgrade would also experience the same transformation as Constantinople (after its conquest by the Ottomans).

-roman law was adopted in many places, which included the jizija. Meaning: Locals just paid what they paid under roman rule and it was accepted as tax + jizija.

-Unlike popular misconception, Ottoman rule was not exlusively islamic. Timars were regularly given to christians as well. In some places on the Balkan up to 50% of the timars were hold by non-muslims.

-When an ottoman solider wanted to loot the Hagia Sophia, Fatih draw his sword and claimed it as his property in order to keep the city's historic legacy.

This series is gonna be wild

@johnquach8821

Glad to see more of this Ottoman series! It's a very interesting part of European and Asian history.

@jamy30

Such a brilliant job at being both informative and concise as well as having brilliant maps. Looking forward to the series.

@Verebazs

There is actually an upcoming 10 part television series about John Hunyadi this March, titled "Rise of the Raven". The trailer is up on YouTube. We don't have much information on where it'll stream, but it's pilot episode supposedly received standing ovation at last years MIPCOM Cannes, so probably one of big streaming sites did pick it up.

@tayyabelpana

Thanks I was waiting for 5his episode for so long 👍

@CengizNoker

Include Mehmed's letter to Uzun Hasan in your video while explaining the Akkoyun expedition.

@dirtcobainnnn

This series is the Flagship Series of K&G hands down.
