The biggest thing that helped me get started was this: You will not see progress immediately, and it may take weeks to even notice a small change. However, know what you are eating, know how much you are burning, and if you are in a calorie deficit then there is no way that you will NOT be successful! When your body is in a deficit, you must lose weight, and as long as you are doing even a little weight training then that weight loss will mostly be from fat. When you get home from the gym do not look in the mirror and expect anything different. But know that one day soon you will see a difference. You can do it!
I’ve been stuck at 140/143 since October. I walk an average of 8k steps a day (most days it’s more than that but I do have lazy days sometimes), I lift weights 3 times a week and have been progressively overloading, and my calories never go above 1700 a day, even with a focus on protein. I aim for 135 grams of that a day. I’m just wracking my brain trying to figure out what to do next because I’m tired of being stuck. My measurements aren’t changing. I’m honestly so frustrated that I just really want to binge on French fries and cheeseburgers and not care but I’ve been doing this for over a year and don’t want to give up now. Thank you for the reminders and motivation.
203 to 152 today over 2 years and I'm chasing that 12% babyyy
You’re right. I used to crash diet, lose weight super fast but it never lasted. Now I lost 30 pounds in 5 months, I was disappointed and thought it was slow but I realized it was FOR LIFE. Cuz I don’t have binges and I don’t feel like I starved myself… off course not everything is perfect and I’m still learning my body but it’s definitely better to lose it more slowly
As someone who has losed like 30 kgs in 3 months AND bounced back , i want to recommend everyone and cant stress this enough(like in this awesome video), TAKE IT SLOW, nobody is rushing you, dont starve yourself and enjoy the ups and downs of your journey, the important thing is not losing fat but instead be and feel healthy
Hey Mario. At the start of 2021 I was at 120 kg, pretty unhappy with my health and looks in the mirror. Having a plan to finally cut weight and start being a healthier version of myself I stumbled across your channel. In the summer I already was at my dream weight of 82 kg, sustainably keeping it off up until now. I just wanted to thank you for being a part of this. You, Paul Revelia, Will Tennyson, Pre 2019 Parrot Man and Simnett Nutrition all helped me in specific ways. Keep up the awesome work, since channels such as yours will change peoples lifes!
I clocked 289 today. I started my journey at 300 lbs even almost two months ago and Jan 28th I was 291 that was the last time I weighed myself. So I'm still doing good. My minimum goal is 4 lbs a month or 1 pound a week. So I'm on track to hit my goal by Jan 2023. It's still so early but I feel like I've done so much work already. I'm not giving up. This is my lifestyle now. And I only want to get more into it. I don't need to be sexy or an athlete I just want to be healthy and comfortable in my skin and for my fucking back not to hurt anymore. I want to be able to stop feeling fatigued. I've made so many changes in the short term. I'm I'm motivated to keep going. I just wish I had money to get help like a trainer or something. Or even just someone to keep me motivated and going to the gym. It sucks doing this alone. My family doesent get it. They're content staying over weight and none of them have ever or will ever make an effort so they're all diabetic and suffering. That's why I'm doing this. It's toxic. It's depressing and I'm opting OUT of that sedentary lifestyle where u don't self reflect and push yourself to make changes. But I just wish I had someone to support me. This isn't my first tango with weight loss and at this point being 7 years sober I'm somewhat of a self improvement veteran having done multiple tours against my inner demons and subconscious efforts to self sabotage. And the closest thing I have to support are these corny Medicare counselors that are obese themselves and who haven't been drug addicts, who know nothing about what I'm going through. ,
Down 75 pounds since my beautiful mother passed away in late 2020. Probably have about another 15-20 to go to be where I want to be. Your channel and others like it have been a huge help. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
40kg down, kept it off for 3 years. Not going back. Your channel has helped alot with the recompisition side of my body... thank you!
Been losing 1kg/week since I started on 01/01, while also gaining lean mass, just by integrating fasting with a healthy diet. I'm feeling great and it doesn't even take willpower to do it because it's just a healthy lifestyle. It only takes willpower to start it and change your habits. I'm currently around 20% BF, the goal is around 10% (I've never seen my abs in my life, that's the goal lol). My protocol is as follows: 1. Intermittent fasting daily (16h fasted, 8h eating window) 2. One prolonged fast per week (i.e. no meals on Monday, which is a 40~48h fast) 3. Remove industrialized "foods" from your diet, eat natural (no refined sugars, no soda, no refined flour, no or low gluten, no unhealthy vegetable oil like soy and canola, etc. -> reduces insulin spikes and inflammation in your body) 4. High protein, medium/high fat, medium/low carbs 5. Continue your regular exercise regimen, weightlifting, a bit of cardio, etc. If you're starting from scratch it might feel like too much to start all at once, it's fine to implement one by one and turn them into a habit.
I really like how you ask to like which is so subtle and also is a check for listening properly
Thanks Mario….you and Sean N are the greatest on YouTube. Calm, sensible, concise and relevant.
Great advice. I always want to go faster but it helps to hear someone say “slow down!”
I've been following Mario for years and have been struggling with weight gain for a long while. I think the advice Mario gives is well researched and sensible, and his positive attitude philosophies have been really helpful. But nothing I tried could help with my over eating and weight gain long term. Last year I was diagnosed with a number of neuro divergent conditions (autism, adhd, dyslexia etc) and this has changed things a lot. In particular I can now see how my food choices were controlled by my sensory perceptions - I struggle with particular textures for e.g. and my eating habits were controlled by emotions and a need to get a dopamine hit from highly palatable foods. Just knowing and understanding this has been instrumental in changing my relationship with food and related behaviours and I'm now consistently and steadily losing weight with the sort of methods you discuss. I'm leaving this comment for anyone who may have struggled like me, and felt they were fighting an invisible force when it comes to fitness, weight loss and healthy eating and lifestyle habits. There may be a neurological cause contributing to your struggles.
My weight loss journey started a little over a year ago and I've had my ups and downs. Lost a good 30 lbs then I had a plateau because I was eating terribly. I fixed it with a more intense routine to work off of. I went from 3 - 5 days a week of calisthenics to a mix of intense fast walking on the elliptical for 1 hour for 2 days a week. Now I've lost an extra 20 lbs ever since so now I'm 50 lbs lost. Went from 292 - 239 atm and I'm looking forward to 190 - 200 by the end of this year hopefully.
Thanks for the encouragement. At one point I was in excellent shape, but it all fell apart after a major auto accident. I’m just starting to get back on my feet after five years, so I find your vids therapeutic.
Thanks for this video Mario! I’ve lost 19 pounds since watching your channel and have exactly 30 to go so this is perfect! See you in 25 weeks 🔥💪🏼
I would not recommend that most people start dieting with a specific calorie total or an if-it-fits-your macros approach. They simply don’t have the management skills at that point to do it successfully… Arguably a better approach is to simply start out with getting regularity and tracking. Write everything down you eat in a week. Next week, make a plan (BEFORE you go grocery shopping) to replace some of your regular meals with something that has higher protein and fewer calories. Small changes will get most mildly overweight people losing weight pretty quickly
210lbs and 23% BF. Starting 6 week cut today with a goal of 190-195lbs. Tracking food, keeping steps 8-10k daily, and lifting 3-4 days weekly. Ready to get it!
