I yelled at my drill once that did not end well
I would have paid money to see that

The military has a slightly different "reintegration" boot camp for people that got out and came back.. sometimes the drills are too busy being drills or are stuck in the mindset of "yell at every recuit they see" to realize that they might be yelling at a special forces detatch ment that outranks them. (Or used to)
I was trained to be drill instructor, luckily I got out. But iI never forget the saying: He who has served in the army will never laugh in the circus.

"Have a load of this Drill"
I went through a prior service boot camp at Ft Sill back in 2009. Our leadership was cool with us. But there was BCT DS closeby, and those guys could be dicks. Most didn't understand why we were more relaxed than the average trainee platoon. But we had E4, E5, E6, & one E7. It was tough to intimidate us vs the average BCT E1, E2, or E3.
Man, this is hard to listen toβ¦ Having PTSD myself from much different circumstances, I canβt imagine how hard it would be to live with these memories, let alone to speak about them in order to try to help other people. I commend you, Seth.
Repost?
Great story
How long does a person have to be out of the service before reenlisting requires a return to Boot Camp/Basic Training? I was discharged in '98 from the Marine Corps. After 9-11, I thought about reenlisting, but into the Army. I even visited a recruiter who said I wouldn't have to go through Army Basic Training even though I had been out for more than 3 years. It ended up not happening anyway, but made me curious how long before someone has to go back through initial training?

Joining the military is better than retiring from the military? We are not treating our combat vets well. Hopefully they find someone who cares for them when they come back home again π’
