FAQs:
1. How well does Samson pull your RV?
Samson has a max tow rating of 5,000 lbs, which is higher than quite a few pickup trucks. Jasmine weighs 3,280 lbs empty, and I travel light.
2. I want to tow with my FJ. Any tips?
Stick to 80% or less of your max tow rating, which may range between 4,700 lbs and 5,000 lbs. The shorter the RV, the better stability (Jasmine is a little over 20 feet long). Get a solid hitch setup to ensure there is no trailer sway (I have none). Tow on premium gas for peak performance, even if your year and engine don't require it. (Samson ONLY gets premium gas; neither his engine nor year requires it). Avoid towing in the heat, stick to flatter routes, and mentally prepare to see your MPG cut in half for full trailer sizes.
3. What kind of FJ Cruiser is Samson?
Samson is a 2011 Base Model. I chose this specific year because it was the best combination of higher MPG, better engine, no requirement for premium fuel (joke's on me because that's still all he gets), and the highest tow rating.
4. What kind of RV is Jasmine?
She is a 2018 Keystone Bullet Crossfire 1800 RB. You can find the specs and a 360-tour of the layout on the manufacturer's website. Note that each model year has some small changes and they only showcase the latest year out.
5. Does Shadow enjoy RVing?
Shadow is like his mom. We love new destinations; we hate getting there.
6. How do I stay safe on the road as a woman traveling alone?
Since the Gabby Petito incident, I've been receiving more questions than usual about my safety on the road. My mom and at least one friend always know where I am and/or what my itinerary looks like. There are multiple tracking devices in the RV, the truck, and personal belongings. I have a SimpliSafe alarm system installed in the RV (with emergency response and monitoring) and two separate alert/alarm systems in the truck. My cat wears a collar with a tracker at all times and his carrier is a knapsack to ensure he is always part of my escape plan. I do not discuss what weapons I may or may not have.
7. Are you still RVing in the US and Mexico?
No, I currently live in Spain. However, I kept all my gear (including the RV and FJ) and can return to the open road at any time.
8. What happened to Shadow? Where is he?
I took Shadow with me to Spain when I left the United States.
9. Why don't you publish videos weekly anymore?
I'm no longer a full-time content creator. The AI Revolution negatively impacted content creators, and only the big creators survived that shakeup. I got a master's degree and switched to tech in 2023 while still traveling full-time in the RV. I'm now a full-time PhD student in AI, and I work full-time in the tech industry. Videos take 4-8 hours to complete, so I only publish them once or twice per month.
10. Where can I see your most recent adventures?
I still publish weekly on Substack and share all major updates there: alexischateau.substack.com/
Thanks for watching!
