The State Of The Web (Jeremy Keith)

176 views 8________

The World Wide Web has come a long way in its three decades of existence. There’s so much we can do now with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: animation, layout, powerful APIs… we can even make websites that work offline! And yet the web isn’t exactly looking rosy right now. The problems we face aren’t technical in nature. We’re facing a crisis of expectations: we’ve convinced people that the web is slow, buggy, and inaccessible. But it doesn’t have to be this way. There is no fate but what we make. In this perspective-setting talk, we’ll go on a journey to the past, present, and future of web design and development. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and by the end, you’ll be ready to make the web better.

About Jeremy Keith:

Jeremy lives in Brighton, England where he makes websites with the splendid design agency Clearleft. He is a respected voice within the industry, having spoken at notable conferences including An Event Apart, Mobilism, Web Directions, Smashing Conference, and Beyond Tellerrand. He has also written articles for A List Apart and written books on JavaScript, HTML5 and progressive web apps.

Hailing from Erin's green shores, Jeremy maintains his link to Irish traditional music running the community site The Session. He also indulges a darker side of his bouzouki-playing in the band Salter Cane.

Jeremy spends most of his time goofing off on the internet, documenting his time-wasting on adactio.com, where he has been writing for over fifteen years.
