"What is the difference between drawing from the real thing and from a photo?"

I've just started sketching recently. I'm really interested in the talks you're all sharing and it's inspiring!

I have a question. Why do you get different results from observing a 3D plaster with your own eyes and drawing it on flat paper, and from taking a photo and accurately copying it onto paper? What is the difference?

What is the difference between staring at real plaster for hours and taking a photo of that plaster and copying it accurately? If you just want to copy it accurately, the latter method is easy and quick, but it's very boring and meaningless.

For example, a blueprint is something that is drawn accurately. What is the difference between a design perspective of a building and a sketch?

I think I kind of understand, but I'd love to hear your opinions and thoughts. Thank you.
