Let’s talk about what REALLY grinds my reader gears… ⬇

Picture this: you’re reading a story set in modern Chicago and your protagonists are about to get
it on. And then all of a sudden they pull out the High Fantasy talk: “I promise I will walk out that door and trouble you no longer!”

“He brandished his strong sword and pounded into her to the hilt.”

Obviously, not all of the books I’ve read with this issue use ACTUAL fantasy words, but you get the gist. If your book is modern contemporary, your characters should talk like it. Immerse me, don’t kick me out of the vibe, okay? ’Cause if I start seeing high fantasy stuff in your modern contemporary, I’m gonna start laughing.
