New Functionalities, technologies, customer needs and cost efficiency drive new vehicle architectures.

Has the number of ECUs in the vehicle increased over the last decades, there now is a trend to reduce the number of nodes in the vehicle architecture by centralizing ECUs into integration nodes and central servers, which are powered by high-performance computers.

The automotive solution for these central servers is the AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform. But the transition to using AUTOSAR is not limited to introducing new technology. It is a change in the development culture that is very often underestimated, resulting in technical debt and rework. Typical assumptions are:
• Assumption 1: There is no need for a dedicated architecture, AUTOSAR is an architecture itself.
• Assumption 2: I can take over my legacy code, AUTOSAR can consume any kind of Software.
• Assumption 3: AUTOSAR is ready to use out of the box.
• Assumption 4: In Adaptive everything is a service.

The presentation gives an overview on the lessons learned from many task force projects we have conducted and provides an insight in improvements relevant for a successful transition to AUTOSAR. It is based on our consulting product "AUTOSAR HealthCheck", which identifies risks, weaknesses and gaps before starting the transition. The special challenges and consequences that the introduction of the AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform brings with it are also taken into account.
