Last week, Representatives Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) and Stephanie Bice (R-OK) introduced a major piece of legislation that could finally move the needle on something millions of Americans need: paid family leave.

It’s called the More Paid Leave for More Americans Act, and it does something smart—it doesn’t try to force a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, it:
✅ Provides federal grants to help states create or expand paid leave programs
✅ Requires participating states to offer at least 6 weeks of paid leave for new parents
✅ Ensures wage replacement of 50–67%, with higher percentages going to lower-income workers
✅ Creates a coordinated multi-state network (the “I-PLAN”) to make leave easier to access across state lines
