Building a Survival Shelter for a Shepherd in the Iranian Desert | Nomad Life

Did you know what this is called? In the nomadic language of Iranian shepherds, it’s known as a "Koleh".

Imagine wandering through the hot, sandy deserts of Iran where the temperature can rise above 50°C (122°F). Out there, shade isn’t just a comfort—it’s survival. This traditional shelter provides a cool place to rest during the scorching heat and a warm refuge when the icy desert winds blow in winter.

These shelters are hand-built by Iranian shepherds near the borders to protect themselves from extreme weather, wild wolves, venomous snakes, and scorpions.

In this video, I began building one of these survival shelters—it's not fully finished yet, and it still needs more wooden reinforcements. But even now, you can feel how powerful and practical this ancient design is.

Join me on this journey into the heart of nomadic life, where tradition meets survival in the most raw and real way.
