How I Push Through the Ugly Middle—And Get to Something Real
This is head 24 of 100— part of the 100 heads challenge, and for a while, I wasn’t sure I’d finish it.
The likeness felt off. The tones weren’t landing. That “ugly middle” of the drawing was louder than usual.
But I’ve learned to stay in it. To keep making marks.
This one taught me what happens when you push past the doubt—when you trust the process, even when it feels like it’s slipping.
Graphite on paper. Powder, smudge, hatch, erase. Just marks. Just focus.
No shortcuts. No magic. Just time, attention, and a bit of chaos.
If you’re stuck in your own process, this one’s for you.
