A presentation on the utility of the forward sensitivity method for the parameter estimation. Moreover, an analysis of the cost functional can reveal a way to optimize measurement placement by controlling the shape of the cost functional and improve the minimization characteristics. Demonstration is provided using the famous FitzHugh-Nagumo model from computational neuroscience.
