Encryption is a security measure used to protect data during transmission. The encryption process involves using an encryption key to scramble data packets prior to transmission in to an unreadable form, so that if the message is intercepted during transmission, it will be viewed as a series of randomised symbols and make no sense.

Decryption is the reverse process of encryption, in which the encryption key is used once again by the specific security software. This time though it is for the purpose of unscrambling the received encrypted data in order to turn the data back in to readable form for the destination device. This way users will be able to read and comprehend the received data.
