Pastel Drawing of “Brooks” part 2

This video is a demonstration of the wet technique of pastel drawing on a heavy sanded paper. This technique allows for many layers and reworking as you will see in this video. As the light moves in the day, different lighting is more attractive so I cha ge and use different colors. This pose was a 6 hour long pose. Portraiture, will start with a long pose, but since most people can’t hold still that long, I use photography after a clients first 1 hour pose to capture skin tone, light and composition. “Brooks” is professional model which is well known in the St Louis area which this was painted in.

The pastels used are custom soft pastels like, Unison, Schminke, Mounte Vision and others. Also used are pastel pencils, blending sponges and tools. The paper used was Sanded Wallis paper. Any sanded paper of heavy weight will work for a wet underpainting. Follow, subscribe and learn about how to apply a sanded ground to a heavy board to paint.
